I've had my eye on one of those for quite a while John - and you're right, Christmas is not far off now ;) :D. Luckily, I've not had much need for a horn so far, but would be good to have for when I do. Maybe I'll get a rear view mirror first though... :).

I think Russ has an airZound too. From what I hear, these things are loud, so I'd only intend to use this mainly with motor vehicles, must be careful not to shock pedestrians unnecessarily !

When it's adjuster is turned up to full blast the noise it makes is incredible. I've always liked suddenly blasting it when chatting to teenagers about the ebikes. The effect on young ears literally makes them physically jump with shock. :D

All the "cool" suddenly vanishes! I remember one saying "Why is it so loud? with a very pained expression, still wincing.

I bought it because the bell wasn't loud enough for the many pensioners round here, but I've never dared use it on an old person. I don't want to face a manslaughter charge. :(

:D Its definitely going on my 'Christmas list' now :D. Maybe useful on a low setting for 'hard of hearing' or oblivious pedestrians? How adjustable are they & how loud is the lowest setting?

It can be damped down quite a lot, and if the tank isn't pumped to the full 80 lbs pressure, that softens the sound a bit as well. I don't like using the adjuster too much though, since it's just a plastic cam that gradually squashes the air tube supplying it. Might not last long if adjusted too frequently.

Wai Won Ching, boss of eZeebike has always wanted to use Airzounds, but he told me that each one he bought has leaked air from the plastic tank bottle. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was probably disgruntled employees sticking pins in it. :D

I'm not an employee and have been retired for years. I have no business connection with any e-bike manufacturer, importer or dealer and never have had. Coincidentally I retired the year the very first e-bike was launched on the world, 1991.

In fact Ching refuses to speak to me or accept an email since I criticised his batteries a year ago. Prior to that I met him at Loughborough August 2006 when I had a problem on my early Torq and he commented on my Airzound and told me that about his experience of them.

It's part of the rules of this forum that any commercial interest must be declared when posting, and that is strictly enforced when an abuse crops up.

I wonder the Enivronmental Health Officers work Christmas days? it 'zounds' like there may be a few complaints.
What's that dear I'll take my medication in minute when I have finished comunicating with this sacred sanctuary of idiots and nutters!.

I have got one of these - highly recommended even on pedestrians who ignore your feeble bell. It does stop lorries/buses/cars in their tracks as they assume it is a larger vehicle so is of some safety value. Once they find out it is only a cyclist they go back to trying to run you off the road - no really, it has happened!

Coming soon... the electric bikes that instantly morph into monster 4x4s, or even tanks, at the press of a button (now you don't want to accidentally press that one at the wrong moment :D).

Hey, there might be an idea in this.... a defence mechanism for bikes... :D. Anyone?...

Yes, my AirZound is still working well. Luckily I've not really needed to use it much, but it is very satisfying to wake up a car driver from their coma when they decide to cut you up :D

Sticking in pins

Just for info, my Airzound 2 packed in 2 weeks back. I think it was losing air and the constant refilling process made something fail, I think the reed as there was air still. So I have just bought the recently released AirZound 3!!! And although very very similar, it seems to keep its pressure much better, and is even louder at 120 decibels on full.

Got it for 19.99 from the best bike shop in the world (SJS)

I also just got an airZound 3, collected in store at my local Edinburgh bicycle co-op for £21.95. They are REALLY loud!!! I'm worried for my ears if I ever need to use it! My new motto in traffic is: be seen, and in case you're not, then be heard! :D It will hopefully be useful in traffic when drivers pull out in front of you etc. to minimise the evasive action required, by making sure they become aware of your presence and stop...

Also picked up a cateye mirror - its the 'oval' type BM-500G - for £6.95, which does make a big improvement to road awareness as has been said - a good investment :). It fits handlebars with internal diameter 16-20mm, on my Torq they're about 17.5mm, so no filing down (of the mirror's 'plug') to fit was required :).

Yes I recently swapped the B&M Cyclestar mirror for the Cateye on my Twist, much better visability, but still not as good as the Bell helmet mounted one when in heavy traffic, where I check the traffic behind me every few seconds without having to look away from the road ahead.
