Kalkhoff-first Impressions

BORIS(well got to be its name right?) arrived this morning.
Having charged up,fitted pedals, and aligned H bars did a quick around the block.

1) Build quality excellent.
2) Frame size (53CM) perfect for my 6Ft with 31.5" inside leg
3)Riding position, sit up-and -beg ,perfect and very comfortable.
4) Power assistance levels appear to be just right; used low all time, and high on a very steep slope, which made it a breeze.
5) As an old ,unfit biker, who needs help, and likes quality,
this is the machine.

I would like to publicly thank all at 50Cycles, who have been most obliging (and patient) and say that , in my inexpert opinion, they have a total winner.
I look forewards to A 2 B ,and Fleccs reviews in near future.

Boris. Russian eh!

I think mine's more of a Gunter in scale, despite now receiving a low seatpost to make it possible for my 5' 6" to ride it without developing cramp.

Glad you like it Chris, nothing not to like really.

Ah yes, I remember now. That name just didn't go with the character acted!

I used to see him and the rest of the gang around Hammer Films in Wardour Street, Soho, when I worked around that area years ago.

The mode switch sets the amount of power IE LOW MEDIUM OR HIGH.
The other switch is on/off

The whole of Soho did and does Chris, but I was born there and christened there in St Anne's Church, so for me it has entirely different connotations. :)

Just down the road from me now, but I don't cycle that way with the A22 rat race in the way.

Oh, I must apologise on behalf of my friends, they seem to have got side tracked and lost the plot on this thread:confused:
Think the Guru has been at the WD40 again, or should it be WD70;)

Eh? Isn't this the "All our yesterday's" thread?

Or was it the " Who do you think you are?" thread?

Back to tarmac then.
The one aspect of the Karhoff that I would like to see is,"on the bike charging",also the charger is a "lump".Dont feel to strong about this-would have been nice though:)

Possibly a design problem Chris, nervousness about high currents getting into the rather delicate areas of the Panasonic computing board. Same on the older Lafree/Panasonic system.

mainboard

I suppose the charger is a matter of fashion, the type popular with power tools/hedge cutters and the like now. Too cumbersome to carry though, so I agree that I'd like a more conventional free lead rectangular box.

Thanks for explination-but-how do Ezee overcome the same worries on their mainboard?

It's just a straightforward controller Chris, tiny by comparison since it has nothing like the computing power of the Panasonic system which is unique in E-bikes. The Panasonic board has much in common with a computer motherboards, including a CPU and EPROM for example, and rather sensitive electrically. The method used for pedal torque sensing uses incredibly small current variations, a million miles away from the crude rotor pickup systems used on hub motor bikes

Only in the power handling area is there much in common.
