Well I've had a busy week, and ridden some bikes. Coupled with the advice given here I think I'm a bit nearer now. :)

I have ridden a Wisper, and I got to be honest, I wasn't keen. I wasn't happy with the one size only, and it felt a bit "cheap". Hard to describe but I guess I don't have much to compare it to. Not too keen on the idea of it driving itself either......ha ha. I also had a go on a Sparta. This felt much better built, much more "sharp", but didn't seem to have much ooomph. Also I was put off by the maintenance side of things.

I am now also looking into kit versions......Cytronex etc. A little put off by the range, but does anyone know what the hillclimbing is like on these?

Sorry for all the questions, I want to make sure I make the right choice.

Thinking about that, how long are you expecting the journey to take? Is there a lot of urban stop/start riding?
I can well understand why the lack of oomph puts you off the Sparta, but what is it about maintenance that puts you off? I can't see what makes it different.

The most significant problem is removal of the rear wheel, for inner tube replacement for example, requires the attention of Sparta dealer and connection to their PC with Sparta's calibration software. Not something you can do at the roadside or in your garage, unless you happen to have a laptop and the interface widget (€100 to the dealer) to connect to your bike.

Beautiful bikes in many ways, a very smooth ride but the assistance is rather weak for British road conditions. The one I had struggled on mild hills in west London.

PC with callibration software!?!?!? My god what do they do? Why on earth would you need to do that? This a bike, not an F1 car!

This is a widely criticised feature on the Sparta Ion M-gear, and presumably on the sister bike, the Koga Miyata. Originally designed in and for Holland, probably ok there with their dealers everywhere and no hills, but definitely very unsuitable for our market, and as Tim says, very weak on hills.

Quality

I second what Paul has written above, I would also add that the Torq2 is a better quality bike than the Wisper, I have ridden and owned both. So I would recommend a Torq2 or a Kalkhoff Agattu.
One more bike worthy of consideration however is the Voyager which would seem to be very good value for money, but I have not ridden one or seen it in the flesh and have no idea about the after sales. Electric Mountain Bike on eBay, also, Bikes, Cycling, Sporting Goods (end time 18-Mar-09 13:57:37 GMT)

Hi John, I would be delighted to let you have a ride on the new 2009 Wisper, I think you may change your mind.

Best regards David

Google fight

But the entries are wrong and they make the Wisper win. Both entries have to use the same factor, in this case the model of both, not the make.

Change it to Agattu and 905se and the Agattu is the clear winner instead.
.
How does this work? I am flattered to see that Wisper is rated higher than Agattu but that seems incredible as the Agattu is made by such a huge company against the much smaller Wisper Ltd. It's like saying Morgan is more popular than Ford! Although as Wisper is known predominantly for the 905se, it may be a more accurate result than is first sight.

The best thing is to come to Presteign and see!

Regards David

Googlefight eh? What a great idea that was..... If only we had google back in the forties, I'm sure Hitler and Churchill could've sorted all that stuff out with a mouse instead.

Googlefight just counts the number of search results for each term you enter and that's what wins the fight. If you search for Wisper, you also get all the people who can't spell whisper etc.

Here's another googlefight to illustrate the point... Google Fight : Make this fight with googleFight basket weaving VS wisper

Comparing Agattu with Wisper using Google is bound to make Wisper win David, since it's measuring one Kalkhoff model against all Wisper models. By making it the model on both that's measured, a fairer result is reached, model for model, and the Agattu wins.

Comparing makes, Kalkhoff and Wisper, Wisper wins, but comparing Derby Cycles and Wisper, Derby Cycles wins.

Pick your factors to get the result you want. ;)

Whether online names, surnames or first Christian names, you win every time David.

I don't mind though since my middle name is Victor, which means winner and makes me the Googlefight winner over David. :p
