It's unlikely to be buckled given th build standard on these wheels, but worth a check. It's common to have a very small sideways deviation, and if a brake pad is sitting close it can touch with only a minute variation in the rim.

A good local bike shop will be able to identify the ticking sound if it's from the bike or gear hub, and will only be unable to do so if it's from within the motor unit. They'll also be able to say if the wheel needs attention, so you might consider it worth getting an opinion on those.
.
Thank you again for your invaluable help and advice. I'll have it checked out. Lloyd at 50c said it is no problem to bill any work carried out. ( I will check, of course that it is within warranty agreements and that any work will not infringe the guarantee).

Hi Guys n Gals

finished early today so have spent the afternoon giving my bike some TLC. Striped the chain tensioner and applied some oil (Homebase dont sell grease apparently). This is now working brilliantly and demonstrated that the chain length was fine. Gave the chain a nice bath in acetone before an application of oil. No test ride yet but i'm confident all will be well.

Expensive afternoon as ive just ordered a new computer (the Aldi one I have will not work in MPH as there is a wheel size issue), lock, marathons, tubes, spd pedals, spd shoes, bottle cage and bottle from wiggle.

I think i'll stay in the office all day in future :)

How did you get on Harry?

Fixing the tensioner has made so much difference. Most important is that the chain is no longer slipping. I had thought this was the hub gears jumping but I now realise it was the chain slipping on the motor sprocket. So I no longer leave 3 second pauses between changes and the bike is much more enjoyable. Also gone is the odd feeling of take-up when you start pedalling. So all in all a great fix. I have just got the damaged back wheel to sort out and then I will be happy.

Only just picked up on this thread. I changed my diamond frame to an 18 tooth rear sprocket 3 weeks ago and removed a single link at the same time, coincidentally, the same day I broke the 5th metacarpal bone in my right (dominant) hand. So I haven't ridden a bike since. My son has ridden the bike a couple of times and said it is fine, To date I have not expereienced any chain problems with either of my Agattus .

Rode my bike this morning for the first time since sorting the problem. Really nice and smooth and no slips or noises. Added some spd pedals and am now really really really happy :D
