This will now be my standard response to the cheater comments;-

"I'm cheating death and injury. Ebikes are safer. Fact!"

It's the one that I've found to be most effective in shutting them up. ;)

Last night reminded me why I own an e-bike. I fancied a quick spin at local woods which is still 6 miles away. Got on bike used speed dongle and was there in half the time it would normally taken me. One button to switch dongle off and into eco/tour mode to enjoy local woods. Went down squirrel run (downhill section), but decided I wanted to do it again with ease as assist to get back up hill.
If I used my unassist bike, I might well have through, cant be bothered.

Oh, and still got a work out!

Why not stop the person shouting cheat and then recite the whole of your long explanation of why e-bikes are safer.

They'll never shout "Cheat" again! :D

As I was e-biking up an off-road incline, two trendy, not un-fit, Lycra-clad "yummy mummies" came jogging towards me heading in the opposite direction... and as they were about to pass, I heard the "cheat" comment...

In a loud voice, I simply retorted "Jees, your arse looks HUGE in that!". That shut her up.

I'd have mentioned the camel toes.

:D When putting out a fire you have to remove either the oxygen, the fuel or the heat. Throwing petrol on it might be fun, but not the best solution. ;)

Perhaps saying "Do you realise that they're quite a safe form of cycling?" Something like that might give them food for thought. Maybe they'll even ask you why? Perhaps you could even offer them a free ride..

Or something a bit more positive than referring to their bits. They obviously think that you're one anyhow. Why open your gob and remove all doubt. :D

Many regular bike forum trolls have tried to infer that they're dangerous motor bikes and have some tenuous link to recent tragic accidents. That is clearly and simply not the case. There's never been a better time to educate people on the positive benefits of ebiking.

I think that we've all spent way too long in the dark, listening to the negative ridicule that have almost become believable urban myths. Time to rise up, stand proud and share the facts. Riding safer will keep everyone happy. Pedestrians, trolls, traffic, politicians and all. :)

When I'm riding my ebike, I'm not at all embarrassed by that fact. Nor will I be made to feel that way. People who pass comment on the street are trolls. Trolls don't like facts. They inconveniently get in the way of personal opinions and urban myths. They tend to put the flames out. Wear a fireman's outfit if you like. Most of the ladies like that.

I do agree. But it’s not always possible to have that intelligent, considered discussion when the trolls are travelling in the opposite direction passing judgement and hurling abuse. I must say though that those occasions have been precious few for me.

I find most regular cyclists are keenly interested in e-bikes, and I’ve had quite a few ride alongside for a few miles as we engage in healthy discussion. I even had a self-confessed semi-professional cyclist on the expected Tour-De-France grade, mega-thousand-pound super-lightweight carbon frame bike actually slow down to my comparatively pedestrian 18mph for several miles to discuss the merits of e-bikes! He thought they were a fabulous idea... and that is the overwhelming response I get from both pedestrians and cyclists I usually meet when out and about.

To care what someone says you have to care about that person.
Just get on and enjoy the ride :)
I always enjoy the ride, I'm sure we all do, and I don't really care what comments people make. Sticks and stones and all that. :)

Most of the comments are purely down to ignorance. I find that educating and enlightening folks is all part of the fun of owning and riding an ebike. :)
