Hi Guys,
I have a Haibike Sduro allmtn rc which I am completely delighted with and does all I could want or expect a e-mtb to do. I also have tucked away in my garage my previous MTB which never gets a look in now, but my son has expressed an interest in coming out with me. I would like to consider converting it you electric. My questions are :
How suitable is the bike?
I would like centre drive (but open to suggestions)
Not unduly bothered about legality so which is the best motor. (Use will be hilly and off road. Range is more important than top speed)
Budget is whatever gives me the best compromise.
etc. etc. I'm certain you get the idea. 20160723_184746.jpg 20160723_184703.jpg

Range is limited by top speed and max power. So illegal setup cuts range.
The bbs01 is a good start but I think someone has brought out a mid motor with torque sensor, that would be well worth looking at.

I'm on the fence between a TSDZ2 (350w) and the BBS-HD.

The TS has torque sensing so will be more intuitive to ride, but I've seen mix reports about noise and reliability.

The BBSHD is nigh on bulletproof and far more powerfull but the PAS isn't as refined.

I beg to differ.
Unless you can magically reprogram the torque response, using the linear output of a torque sensor to replace a thumb throttle is not very good.

I wouldn't be fitting the thumb throttle but good info none the less.

Doesn't the TSDZ2 alter the assist depending on how hard you press the pedals?.

800 hundred miles and not one problem and you can take off the speed limit.
It's a oxydrive kit.

My persuasion would be towards the BBS, but question the need for the HD model, at 1000W it will create something akin to an electric motorcrosser! Perhaps something lower down in the power range could be more rewarding to ride?
Even on lowest assist setting, that thing is going to kick some power out.
One situation where more isn't necessarily more?

Remember the BBS 01 has a peak power of around 700 watts.
It could be plenty for most.

D8ve the 700w peak power will only be available if the programming is tweaked.
My 350w maxed out at 630w without any reprogramming but only when full throttle was applied on assist 9, on PAS alone the output was only about 375w iirc.
