Hi,

I've just been given an almost new Giant Expression bike (see photo) and would love to convert it to electric for a 5 mile commute (10 miles there and back) on flat tarmacked roads.

I'm looking for (a) as cheap as possible and (b) easy installation.

I'm not too fussed about the latest model/lightweight/performance as long as it will help me from getting all sweaty and puffed out on the way to the office!

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Dave.

Any sensible suggestions will depend on your stats, Dave:

Your -
Weight
Fitness
Terrain (hills)
& maybe, how fast you want to go.

Ok. I'm about 12 stone. Moderately fit and want to go at "normal" pushbike speed on a pretty much flat route. Just want the motor for a bit of "oomph" so I'm not totally knackered covered in sweat on arrival. Any suggestions?

Any of the 250w kits should do you nicely for that, but I reckon you'll soon be wanting to go further & higher ☺

I'd start by looking at the 8fun or Cyclotricity kits for a hub motor and Woosh for a crank-drive.
A lot of the kits for sale on eBay sound like a great deal, but you need to know how to interpret the specifications.
