Hi All,

I could do with some advice please, Does anyone on here run a BBS02 with a 52v battery? Is it safe to run this motor at that voltage?

I have no experience with mid mount motors, My kit at the moment is the Kirby ebike kit ( 29er MTX39 rim kit on a Cube 29er hardtail ) so i was looking for any help possible to guide me with my next purchase choice.

My idea is to strip the kit off of the Cube 29er , Keep the 52v battery that came with it and buy either the BBS02 or the BBSHD kit to fit to another 29er bike i have.
The new bike has Thru axles front and rear, a more modern 1X11 transmission and is a bit more up to date than the Cube, due to having a thru axle on the rear i cannot transfer the Kirby kit onto it, plus i would like to try a mid mount motor on my next build.

I would sell the kirby kit ( Hub motor wheel, cassette, controller, throttle and display, basically everything except the battery) and put that money to a new mid motor, I believe the BBS02 is smaller in physical size , 4 lbs lighter but less powerful and about £250 + cheaper.
Can it be run at 52v safely?
Or do you advise the BBSHD? but that is at least £700+ when you factor in the shift sensor and a bling ring.

All opinions and advice welcome please.

Thanks in advance .

Will run but at max controller amps of 25 which is what its set to out the box but good chance of blowing the controller.

Drop it to 20amps and works fine for thousands of miles but no gurantee for every motor. Some guides say 18, up to you.

Thanks for the reply, how do you drop it to 20amps?
Am i right to think the max wattage would then be 52v X 20amps =1040 watts?.

I have run the BBS02 at 1500 watts with RC Lipo batteries at similar voltages to yourself. But as a general rule you probably want to keep it real and limit the controller to 1000w or under. Dont know if BBS02 is programmable, but there is software available on ES which with a TTL cable, you can program some controllers. Check the advanced menu on the BBS02 which may allow you to regulate the max current.
