Hi all I was eyeing up the following bike in the summer with a conversion in mind https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/cannondale/adventure-2-hybrid-bike-931346?clickref=1101lxVq524e&utm_source=partnerize&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=digidip_net#colcode=93134603
When I was looking at it it was twice the price of what it's going for right now which is what is tempting me greatly .
What I would like to know, is would it be suitable for a rear hub conversion, my ideal would be a waterproof kit something with great torque for hills preferably, some help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

It's an excellent donor bike, suitable for rear hub, front hub and bottom bracket kits. You still need to factor in the cost of mudguards.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll end up pulling the trigger on this tonight, as I just talked to my mate who would be doing the conversion on it and he said he would find the time to do it.

I thought you are against all front hubs

No, I'm not against them. I did about 3000 miles on my first electric bike that had one. I think rear ones are a much better solution if you have a choice, but front ones are OK on a bike that's designed for them (not a conversion) and has to have a rear rack battery because it's a stepthrough. The £535 price tag helps a lot too.

It doesn't make sense to buy a new bike for conversion, when you can buy a ready made ebike cheaper. This one was about £550 this morning. Maybe the price will go down again in a couple of weeks for black Friday. Keep watching it. It has hub gears too.
Don't like the rigid forks at the front would like the suspension the cannondale offers also not a fan of the rear mounted battery, the flexibility of what kit I eventually decide to put on goes a long way in deciding to go the DIY root too.
But. thanks for the heads up all the same, i actually have 2 ebikes at the moment a Fiido d4s which I love as it was my first and has give me a solid 3 years + without missing a beat.
I also have a an old Carerra with a bbs02 fitted, between the 2 I have learnt what my ideal bike would be.

there is no way that bike is as good mechanically and electrically as a new bike + conversion kit for a similar budget (£800-£900). My mechanics used to say that low cost e-bikes are made of cheese. That's something I worked on for years to avoid.

Why a hub drive when Mid is better all round

Sorry, It IS a "NEW" bike ! it isn't second hand.

Also I had 2 12 year old (many upgraded parts) x £1,800+ bikes converted to E and they are perfect thank you

everything we talked about is new, not secondhand.
the OP wanted to buy a new step through and put a conversion on it. The step through donor bike costs £349 at present, if he/she puts a TSDZ2B + a 48V 10AH bag battery for example for around £500, the total would come in under £900. He/she can also fit a hub kit for slightly less.
The converted bike is also new, covered by similar warranty and will be better than anything you can find for the same amount on amazon.

I have a mid drive bbs02,its on an old carerra mountain bike which had new 1x10 drivetrain, hydraulic brakes and Schwalbe Marathons put on but it made me realise i prefer the no fuss style of riding of a hub drive with a throttle for standing starts, also as i age im going to find a step thru highly beneficial.
I have only had my mid drive for about 6 months and my rear hub for over 3 years although im very fortunate not to have had a problem with either, the rear hub just seems bulletproof and more hassle free.
OK so imagine the scenario, my mums getting on and in poor health, i have spent all day shopping and cooking so i can take her some food.
I myself am knackered by this time i have to get to hers 2 miles away with the food, i look at both my bikes and 9 times out of 10 i will choose my rear hub as its easier to get my leg over and the riding style is just way more relaxed.

Jaxter, I think you are talking more about frame shape rather than where motor is located. You can have step through frame, mid drive and a throttle.

My initial thought is hub drive, but i really have not settled i have experienced a mid drive and a rear hub, but am yet to have tried a bike with torque sensor, i have been keenly watching the development of the dmz mid drives so who knows one of them may end up being fitted.
I have 2 bikes that are running well so have the luxury of taking my time and choosing the right fit.
I as of yet have not made the purchase as i started to look at the adventure and EQ instead, i think if the grey EQ was £499 like the red instead of £559 i would of went for it by now, im trying really hard not to be rash

Woosh is selling a torque sensor for hub drives now. Maybe something worth to have a look at.

I think I will buy EQ for my wife. Red is preferred option. I was thinking about buying it when bike was above 1K, so it is hard to resist now. Unfortunately I think EXTRA20 code won't work on EQ :(

Each drive have their own merits , one drive is not better then the other but only in the minds of blinkered users who haven't tried out a varied variety of drives.
