Adding Disk Brakes

Hi all,
I have recently fitted a new set of forks to my bike. They are Suntour XCM with 100mm of travel.

The brakes on the bike are not even good enough to be called crap, so I want to add a disk brake to the front wheel.
The callipers i am interested in are TRP Tektro Spyre which are cable operated so I can keep the existing levers and motor cutout switches.

The forks allow me to use upto 160mm disc.

Now I am very confused by the compatibility of the components. The calliper has 2 options: 1 Flat Mount, 2 Post Mount...... what are these? Which do I choose.
I also see that some people need adapters to make it all work together?

Can somene point me in the right direction.

So basically, my front wheel came with a 180mm disk and I can buy a 20mm adaptor which would fit onto my forks allowing me to use the bigger disk.

Have a look at the avid bb7 calipers, pretty good for cable ones and very easy to keep adjusted. This is the type of adapter you need for a 180 disc.

The BB7 looks good and cheaper. I know nothing about disk brakes, are these any good? Or as good as the Tektro?
I think I will stick with 160 mm as that's what the fork manufacturers recommend

Ditch the cable brake/s and fit a hydraulic, so much better for stopping , brake replacement and wet weather performance.. No need to worry about bleeding just buy and fit, a basic Shimano BM395/445 has very good braking with twin actuated pistons.

I’ve gone for the cable brakes.
I need a cheap fix as it’s only an old clunker but I need something that actually stops me.
I have a new bike coming in the spring and don’t want to spend a fortune on this one

You don't need cutoff switches on both wheels. Hydraulic disk on the front and v-brake on the rear is the lightest, best performing setup on the road.

You will prob. have to fit the 180mm disc to get clearance between the hub and caliper.
