Hello everyone,
I'm 58 years young, physically, 18 mentally. I live in Torquay, Devon, I am a plant fitter/mechanic/welder fabricator, and I have never really thought about an electric bike, until just recently.
I had better explain;-
I have just finished a complete refurbishment of a 1967 Velosolex, to the uninitiated, it is a French, engine assisted bike, that has @ .75hp and cannot climb hills very well.
Where I work is a warehouse that is not unlike the one at the end of the film, 'Raiders of the lost ark'. A short while ago a discovery was made and a long forgotten pallet was pulled out and dusted off, what's a Powabyke? I was asked. I thought h'mm, I could make my 'solex into a hybrid! To cut a long story short, I became the owner of 6, yes,6, various models, I am not certain of the models, 2001, and 2003 was chalked on a couple of the cartons. I will try to describe them.
3 of them are metallic blue 7 speed folders, these are complete but I only have one battery box for these,
2 appear to be classic, front wheel motor type, complete with battery boxes, but the front wheels are missing.
The remaining one I believe is a mountain bike classic type, this one has a rear motor with single speed and sprung forks and a massive rear stand, that locks down, it is complete, but the battery box is missing.
What I have done so far,
My daughter has a bit of trouble sometimes, getting about, and cycling is definitely out, or is it?
I have swapped over parts from one of the classics onto the mountain bike, to give it proper mudguards and a sprung seat, I have fitted a set of new batteries.
The results are quite surprising, it climbs hills reasonably well, but it is very heavy.
My daughter now has a big grin, and is looking for a suitable basket for the front.
I am now just in the process of sorting out one of the folders, which do not have any sensors, so my cunning plan for a hybrid is on the cards if I can make up some forks to take the very wide hub.
So watch this space, there will be a lot of surplus parts available soon.
