My wife never used her converted bike which was fitted with a very heavy 500Watt direct drive front hub.Bought from America years ago before I realised it was useless on our local hills. So in an effort to get her cycling again.....just gone 70.....I bought a cheap 250W kit from Ebay. It cost £111.90 and arrived quickly and very well packed. The wheel was very well built, spokes all tight and ran true. Not like some! A quick job to fit with some thought given too not shortening the motor power lead in case I wished to use on another bike later. Very quiet motor weighing in with the wheel at 5kg. The old 500W one was 7.2kg! The small sized controller fitted into a frame mounted box with space to do the connections. I shall just have to check they don't overheat. See my previous thread!

You wiley old fox! That's very good value. personally, I'd prefer one with at least three levels of PAS, in which case, I'd chuck the controller and get the CON621 from Greenbikekit, which costs about £45 with shipping. Even at £156, the kit would still be good value. You can get 36v 10Ah batteries from Ebay for £150, so £306 for the whole kit with three levels of PAS.

This one looks good value too. It includes the KT controller and LCD3, which I think is worth paying extra for. It also includes the tools, which might save some messing aboout and cost.

Surprising how infrequently the hub motor is properly described. Wether it is direct or geared for example. The monster black sided cheapo ones are obvious but some smaller, lighter front hubs could be direct.

The more recent ones by seller ysbattery are labelled Jiabo - http://www.jiabo-motor.com/ - and I have a sneaky suspicion that these are CZJB 92C2 motors, because some guy in Romania has something strikingly similar at http://www.biciclete-electrice.com/ais-ibikes/Kit-350W-geared and among the images a totally unreadable diagram on motor performance (http://www.biciclete-electrice.com/image/cache/data/ekit/92c2 engine chart-500x500.jpg). The text says: 2.9 kg, diameter 133mm, max torque 39 Nm, peak power input 600 W.

Did I mention that I am anxiously awaiting delivery of such a black cassette 26" kit? If only for the cables, perhaps the controller, and/or the display? ...

Once I am "done" with that one, I can decide on which adventure to start next. 48V battery. Q128c. Or both. Probably 48V first, with that controller I happen to already have.

I don't want to confuse the missus with power levels! She is a technophobe. The little motor chugs along nicely on the throttle at present.

Charliefox - what has been your experience so far with this kit - and what battery spec did you use?
A bit early to say. I have only done a couple of runs on it, one through local woods to the Library and another to town and back. It seems as fast as my Bafang Cassette 350W rear motor on an MTB which I usually use on the middle power setting. There is a slight vibration if you don't get some speed on before using the throttle, but it soon fades away. As I said before, the wheel build was very good and no work needed to tighten up any spokes.
Unlike the MTB wheel on which I've just spent an afternoon on the truing stand to get right. ( nice feeling though!)

What does the switch on the throttle do? Do the throttle LEDs and power go off when you switch it?

Yes, the button on the throttle cuts the power and LEDs.Next push is back on again. Unfortunately because the 7 speed gear change is further along the bars, it is too easy to accidently brush it when changing gear. One has to learn a new routine. I hope the wife's listening!

You can change the angle of the throttle so that the button is further back.

Yes but it has the wrong connectors :p
Sorry if I'm butting in but..;).. What does "the wrong connectors" mean please? I read people write about "Julet", are they the waterproof ones to get?
The Yose Power ads appear to show:
Only black wheel rims but write "silver", i suppose it means the motor colour ;
"Throttle", but only to "6km/h", walking speed?
"Deliver to Mainland Only", European mainland? UK is an island? Not Ireland then?
I suppose the 36v Sine wave controller would be unsuitable for 48v battery? Tho' could use my Woosh Gale's Phylion 36v batt if they sell the fittings separately, same 4mm bullet conns?
I should ask them direct of course.
Cheers, butting out again:).
