A Travel Dilemma

As a retiree I spend some time in the Portuguese Algarve and as I ride an Ezee Forte in the UK which I have found a pleasant and practical experience (albeit forced on me initially due to a mild yet notifiable medical condition) I am considering 'doubling up'. My problem is that although one sees electric bikes in Portugal on the back of camper vans from Holland etc I have been unable to trace any local suppliers and in any case I would prefer to purchase in the UK, which in turn begs the question of transportation. I also have very limited storage space in my Algarve pad!

My initial thoughts are to buy a 'folder' which might be accepted as hold luggage on a regular flight or to buy a conversion kit for a standard cycle purchased in Portugal and live with parking it behind the lounge sofa !

Any thoughts on this would be most welcome!!!

If I were retired, I would take a month or so cycling down! To make it shorter, the ferry to Santander would be an option.

Difficult one.

Flight luggage really means an unpowered Brompton folder, I think even the Nano Brompton would be a bit much for that purpose, and there are no other readily available e-folders in the UK that would be light and compact enough for that.

How about getting an electric folder here and shipping it out when you go so you'll be there to receive it? Then that could stay folded behind the sofa and not be so intrusive. You could bring just the battery with charger back with you to keep it maintained.

You are perfectly placed with a wonderful excuse.
You'll need two batteries but you'll have one for each bike to tote around between Algarve and UK. You'll only need one charger to go where you go.
On the way down you could take the "Pilgrim's Way" to Santiago d' Compostella in Gallicia and put yourself right with God.

Behind the sofa - what's wrong with that? Many are the sacrifices that one must make for love. You could make a piece of furniture (melamine chip board to match existing decor, springs to mind) to house/hide it after you've finished looking at it adoringly.

You have designed the perfect life - Algarve weather; Electric biking. Go for it!

There are bike racks that bolt on to the ceiling so you can haul your bike in the air which could be pretty good for space saving.

Thanks to all. I fear cycling down may be beyond my capabilities !!! But I have since located a Brompton dealer in Lisbon and am querying whether they could fit a Nano kit
