A question for all electric bike londoners ??

Hello all,

Out of interest whether you are riding your daily commute to work or your daily/weekly pleasure ride, which route do you mostly frequent? The reason for this is because I never seem to cross paths with anyone, to me it is like winning the national lottery.

The most I can say is that I live in the South East side of London and the funny thing is that I don't do dirt tracks so in theory my chances in seeing someone on an ebike would be far more greater statistically, (I THINK).

The other thing I had never thought about is that not all electric bike owners are also a pedelec forum member, that's if you agree with me.

About 4-7 months ago one early evening I was heading towards Marble Arch and this fella was riding in the opposite direction, I am not sure if he had seen me but by the time I glanced over my shoulder he was gone with the wind.

You do not have to go into great detail, but at least if you can give me a clue as to where you ride so if and when I am in that area I will keep my eyes wide open without blinking.

MS.

You're not alone, apart from when I've had a planned meeting with a pedelecs member, I've never seen another e-bike being ridden in South London or Surrey.

About 7000 pedelecs forum members worldwide, at least 120,000 e-bikes on the road in the UK alone.

On average sales of e-bikes have been only 1% of UK bike sales and overall biased to utility use rather than commuting.

Morning flecc and good one on you for making me feel that I am not all alone in my observation. Now 120,000 of electric bikes on the road in the UK at first seem quite staggering, but after getting to grips with that figure it is not really that much at all. And then there is the probability of people not riding on their bikes at all the same exact time as you, due to a various number of reasons .

Statistically, i do not know the overall annual growth rate figure for people buying electric bikes , all I'm hoping that this important, fun loving, life saving and environmental industry is not losing it's spark because we would need to notch up a few gears or so to get things back rolling again, and this time without using any stopping mechanism ie (NO BRAKES ) and going down hill too.

What I would also like to find out flecc is that you have been dedicated to this site for quite awhile now and today I was browsing through the (age poll thread), which had gone as far back as the year 2010. It was intriguing for me not to have recognised or even remember any of the names, therefore the question is where are these once upon a time e-bike lovers have disappeared to ? Are they not bothered anymore ,bored, left the country ,won the scratch card lottery, worn the T-shirt, taken up sky diving, pig farming and the list can go on and on.

Perhaps we could have a spotted section. I spotted a Kalkhoff Panasonic drive (I think) locally the other day here in the High Peak.

Yes, it has been a while, I was member number one in October 2006. Since I was the main helper on e-bikes for a long time that kept me in here, and having helped Russ to kick the pedelecs site into initial life, I've naturally had a long term interest in it's continuing health. With plenty of helpers on board these days, I mainly confine myself to entering threads of possible interest, filling in when no-one else is around to help and generally helping the site to keep alive in good health.

Even I go awol at times though, such as most of the last 36 hours which has been filled with one of my other interests.

For most though, e-bikes are a limited subject, and after a few months or a year or two they find they've exhausted the subject of things of interest to them. They mostly still ride e-bikes and even pop in to view this site once in a blue moon and from time to time I have an email from a member active in much earlier years.

Exactly Flecc, i was away for a couple of years, but still happily riding my ebike. It wasn't until recently that i returned to this excellent site for some advice on choosing a new bike.

I'm on my Brompton 5 days a week...from Surrey up to Waterloo. Main routes are waterloo, Faringdon, Kings Cross, Euston Road up to Paddington.

I regularly ride all the way from the depths of Surrey up to King's Cross. I also never see any other electric bikes.

Good idea! I spotted this KTM Macina Cross in Telford today. I think it looks a lot better.

Come to Birmingham, my record is four in a day, average one a week. Saw a new lady on a crank drive in Harborne this morning and I'm planning my collision with the Gocycle (or something similar looking) in Northfield.

I see a lot more sports cyclists on my rides these days, mainly because of the speed differences up the hills, I catch and pass rather a lot, but then they pass me on the flat and downhill too.
