I found your light output very underwhelming in the video tbh. Like in Germany it is illegal to ride with more than one light on the front of a bike here. Something to do with differentiation between type of vehicle. And the legal minimum is 15 lux which I bet many old fashioned lights (before halogen bulbs) don't even reach.

When I reinvest in the trike's equipment I will put a 150 lux high end e-bike light on the front and chuck a 4S Lipo in a beam bag to feed it. It should be good for up to 90 km/h...

Light output is really hard to gauge fron on board footage.. I have filmed mine which really light up the woods only to find that on the video it appears disappointing and nothing like reality..

Yeah, floodlights look better on videos as it looks like the whole scene is evenly lit. Anything with a more directed beam tends to cause the camera to reduce exposure and then everything else looks dark.

SW b+m have taken all those bits and put them in a really nice water resistant case with a better reflector giving a correct beam shape for on road use and a mounting system for me. They also had it certified by German Road Safety. For 47 €... On the road you don't need to light the tree tops, you need a flat, wide, long and bright beam on the tarmac.

Interesting - I have a five year old Hope Vision 2 (480 lumen). The battery is in the twilight of it's career and they've since changed the batteries and connections. I'd quite like to revitalise it rather than throw away a decent light. Is that something you can help with Trouty?

Yes can do it gets new leds , new driver , new switch .
Did about 500 of the buggers a few years ago.
Charged £70 each at the time. Including return postage .
But it became uneconomical when the cheap Chinese stuff flooded the market

The leds driver and switch cost £30
So I made £35 profit after posting back .

Much kudos to you for sticking with the diy route I still make a few lights and dabble with new leds now and again .

But since the xpg s arrived on the scene. The newer stuff like your 70 is too flood and needs a huge reflector to send the lumens down the trail and each new led while it produces good lumen counts becomes harder to find good optics or reflectors .

I have loads of. XPE , XPG . XML and the newer variant leds in my spares bins
Plus quite a few different driver boards from www.taskled.com
And do enjoy messing with them .

My current helmet light outputs approx 4000 lumens and will send those rays well over 400 mtrs down the trail on full power .
Which is only used for laughs

12v 2.4a tho i think i should of got the 6v ones as lot less hassle for a batt to run them form as buck converter not much use on a bike lol.

Bang for buck, it's not a bad light. In that rainy, well street-lit video it's hard to judge it's effectiveness. Here's a mix of well lit urban, dark lanes, woods and fields that show it's output a bit better.

Am using a 'Nestling' 7xCree from Amazon, looks same as eBay one below.
So bright i only use it on dip and angle it down. Would like it to mechanically dip like interior rear mirror, have a real metal fixing and come on in same mode as it was when i switched it off, and switch rear lights as well! Not asking much eh?
