Hello there. This is my first entry into the Forum. I bought a Powabyke about five years ago for £750. It ran OK for a short while but then it started to break down regularly. Trouble was I bought it 'ex display' so my consumer rights were almost non existant. Any way for the short time I bought it it was a reliable workhorse if a heavy beast especially after having to ride it several miles in the rain when the battery failed.
Anyway, turning to the present, like you I have gone through loads of reviews and have finally decided on the Wisper 906SX Tourer. I am awaiting delivery today! I am not sure if I made the right decision. There are numerous reviews for the 905 but not 906 with the Dapush Motor. Also it has a carbon alloy frame. I thought this would make it lighter but the spec says it is the same weight as the 905?
Any way, I will keep you posted on my experience with the 906 but it the meantime if anyone has any reviews on it I would be interested to read them.
Welcome to Pedelecs

I don't own a Wisper 906 XC Tourer, but I quite often go for a buzz on a demo machine. Regarding the weight, bonding Carbon Fibre to an alloy frame stiffens and strengthens the frame. From a cosmetic point of view, it also effectively hides the raw welds giving a perfectly smooth appearance. The final finish appears to be a very tough clear acrylic coating which is very resistant to scratching or chipping.

The big 52T chainwheel driving through an Alfine 8 speed hub gives a very high top gear, which you may only be able to use on slight down-slopes or with a favourable tail-wind. Personally, I would think of this gear as an overdrive top, a bit like 5th gear on a car. I also suggest you treat the Shimano disc brakes with respect, they are very powerful!.

When you first ride the 906 XC, you may find the gutsy Dapush motor a bit noisy when starting off, but quietening to a soft purr once above 5 mph. A word of caution, especially with Winter approaching. The assistance comes in quite smartly when starting off, which means a little care will be needed when riding on frosty roads. Front hub-motored machines can sometimes spin the front wheel from under you in these conditions. As I understand it, Wisper are developing a 'soft start' controller to help with this issue.

The 906 XC Tourer is one helluva good looking machine, and therefore highly 'nickable', good locks will be essential.

Have fun with the 906 when it arrives.
Regards
Bob

Hi and welcome:p

It is in fact called a 906xc tourer? a very nice top of the range wisper bike, hope you had a test ride first, to make sure you like it as it is an expensive bike.....I am sure you will not be disappointed it is a beautiful looking bike, the carbon frame really something! Get decent locks!

why you have chosen to dig up an ancient circa 2008 thread to introduce yourself will probably remain a mystery:D
To a new member, not having any experience with forums, It's a bit like a strange building with many doors, you just keep trying the doors until one of them allows you inside.

So stop bullying new members :p :D

All the best

this is a perennial problem with forums using this software (vbulletin), it happens on another forum I am a moderator on. The display of the forum date of the post is in small text and is often overlooked (even by people with good eyesight) - so people often bump old threads without realising it.

its only really an issue if things are time-sensitive (such as a gig or rave) in which case mods tend to alter the subject line or lock old threads where it causes confusion.
