same as with any forum, there is always one who has to say something irrelevant. they enjoy belittling others as the sound of their own voice is more important to them than the matter at hand.

it was not your money, it is not your bike, it has not been your on-going problem. making silly comments from the sidelines helps nobody.

With that many bikes he should weigh them in at a scrap dealer's he might get more than he can from ebay & do everyone a favour. :D

I think I may have mentioned earlier in the thread, that although my first dealing with the guy was through Ebay, subsequently matters were dealt with on a 'friendly' basis. therefore no paperwork (more fool me).

This arrangement seemed fine until - as mentioned earlier - he seemed to lose his supply of spare parts, and was no longer able to keep his promises.

John, it was your purchase, so it's your decision whether to pursue the matter.

The fact is that the bike should have been in full working order with some battery life left at that £300 price. It will probably only have cost in the region of £650 or a little more new.

If for example it is a fairly recent one at only 3 or 4 years old and in full working order, a fair price second hand without batteries is about £225 to £250, or with Powabyke supplied new batteries just fitted, £350 to £375.

Until very recently the SLA batteried version of this brand new full suspension e-bike was in ebay at £300 "buy it now", which puts this into perspective, as does the advert by forum member Fecn a short while ago selling two of them in perfect working order with sound batteries at £175 each.

I couldn't agree more. In hindsight it was a bad buy, and certainly did not represent particularly good value for money even in full working order. At the time I needed a bike in a hurry for a relation, and as I thought I had a good relationship with this guy, I ordered one from him.

Looking at it now, the bike would (at a guess) be around 8 years old, and its likely the guy bought it as 'spares or repairs' and had his mate perform some basic maintenance on it before selling it to me.

I am hoping that some decency will prevail & that he honours his promise (although I am pessimistic about this). I hope this episode will fore-warn others about the perils of buying second-hand electric bikes from a dealer such as him - and if they do, to please ensure they get enough proof of purchase that would stand up in the small claims court should it be needed.

There is even something strange and ambiguous about his ad on ebay. There is a photo of about five bikes, and he says what you see is what you get. That implies you are bidding on a job lot of 5 bikes. But if you look under "sellers other items", each of these bikes are listed separately. So are we bidding for 5 bikes, or just one ?

I would guess just the one. One of his bikes - I can assure you - is more than enough for anybody to handle!!!

This is just him getting rid of his old junk, as doubtless he no longer wishes to trade in electric bikes. Seems he has finally realised that he is just not up to the task.

@john a. I sympathise with your plight, and I do hope you either get a refund, or get the bike fixed. What I was thinking is if you could buy one of those bikes for, say £40, and like me you run a Euro, it could still be a bargain as spares. If you gained just a motor wheel that either works or is repairable, you have got your money`s worth, and then there are things like tyres, rear wheel, mudguards etc. If I lived closer I might have a punt. Actually, I am looking for a spare battery box, and have been quoted £50.

I dont doubt these are worth bidding on for someone who knows what they are doing with bikes. There must be enough spare parts there for someone to strip down and make a tidy sum selling them individually or to save a fortune keeping back-up parts.

Knowing the guy as I do, he would be happy to deliver them for the price of his diesel from Kent. Perhaps if you win his auction he could be prevailed upon to drop me my refund in Essex before heading up to you in Linconshire! It would be on the way, afterall! ;)

@Hugh. "Don`t follow leaders, watch the parking meters". Sounds like Bob Dylan`s Subterranean Homesick Blues.

You're not wrong! Just testing.

or a dealer in joblots of powabykes with a dubious provenance!

You come on here attempting to damage someone's reputation over a civil matter, entirely between you and another party. We are only hearing one side. This chap has over 3000 transactions and 100% positive feed back..You seem to have little interest in doing anything about the situation except stirring things up IMO

Indeed. And I contributed myself to some of his positive feedback, as I was happy with transactions with him through Ebay. Of course, you must realise that he has an interest in maintaining good relations with ebay customers, while private buyers have no such privilege, and no option to leave bad feedback.

I really believe that someone coming to a forum for advice on how to obtain a promised refund should not have to listen to troll-like comment from someone who obviously has no real interest in the matter at hand. As I stated earlier - it is not your bike, it was not your money - so not your problem.

Incidentally, I see from reading past posts that this isn't the first time you have deliberately tried to wind people up on this forum. Surely you could find something less juvenile to do?
