November 7, 201213 yr In view of a little angst dealer/customer/forum elsewhere I thort I'd post a little "Light relief" aka a bit of comedic relief : My car (our spare) is not quite old enough to be a classic, but it does require a little intervention from time to time to keep it on the road ! At this time it is awaiting the replacement of a rotten fuel tank and thence an mot. I begin to contemplate an excersize ebike with minor shopping role , hence my new appearance here , Meanwhile, my SWMBOs car continued to be our mainstay transport. UNTIL ! yesterday on her way to work two "explosions" (her words!) blew a loud hole (previously just a bit of a 'blow' !) in the exhaust. Followed a short time later by a cessation of forward motion. :-!) so today we are totally st***ed ! no cars AND no ebike yet !! oh woe It is a conspiracy I tell you !
November 8, 201213 yr That's why I have four cars and four bikes :-) Oh and a skateboard and pair of skis as well :-)
November 8, 201213 yr Looks like the time has come to bite the bullet Ptarmigan .....to buy a TONARO Lynda
November 8, 201213 yr yesterday on her way to work two "explosions" (her words!) blew a loud hole (previously just a bit of a 'blow' !) in the exhaust. Followed a short time later by a cessation of forward motion. :-!) It is a conspiracy I tell you ! Maybe, or maybe the camshaft toothed belt has broken.
November 8, 201213 yr Author and pair of skis as well :-)Do you live near Bath, did you get to use them t'ther day, 3" of snow, bet that had the residents of BAINES a little surprised !
November 8, 201213 yr Author Maybe, or maybe the camshaft toothed belt has broken.Eeeek ! shhh !! I was about to say " no, the engine spins freely" but then I think that maybe it is one where the valves dont hit the piston crown Actualy,,, there is no spark so we are suspecting the thingummy what goes between what used to be the points and the coil. Keep your fingers xxed.
November 8, 201213 yr Sounds likely, intermittent firing allowing unburnt gases to be sent into the exhaust to be ignited there.
November 8, 201213 yr Author Sounds likely, intermittent firing allowing unburnt gases to be sent into the exhaust to be ignited there.Yes our thinking as well, electronics thingummy having an intermittent fit before failing permanent. but could be the distributor, in which case it is curtains for the car, quoted £550 for one of those !! xxing everything !
November 8, 201213 yr Author The good news is that I will soon be able to resume my search for the perfect eBike Car #1 : new ignitor now making good sparks and engine runs sweet ! (exhaust still to be done tomorrow, explosion damage too great to weld !) [close exam of the distributor, seemed to be good mechanically and the sensor coil showed reasonable continuity (about 900ohm) and 2 substitute coils didnt spark, so we took a punt on the ignitor being awol - good bet it turned out !] Car #2 New fuel tank and now passed MOT and we are mobile again !! Thinks : It might have been Alistair/Atmosphere putting the 'evil eye' on our cars after I chided him over parking in Bristol LOL :)
November 9, 201213 yr Author bite the bullet Ptarmigan .....to buy a TONARO The Cyclezee offer is tempting. Cant find anyone in CUBA* that sells them *CUBA = the County that Used to Be Avon.
November 9, 201213 yr Depends what model you are wanting.......Powerpedals are based in Devon....so not that far away from CUBA lol Lynda
November 9, 201213 yr Author Depends what model you are wantingDunno yet! I am a blank sheet, open to all suggestions. .......Powerpedals are based in Devon....so not that far away from CUBA lol True but a significant difference in price [edit - cf the other dealer] on two of the models. Are Powerpedals THE importer or are they AN importer ? Edited November 9, 201213 yr by Ptarmigan
November 9, 201213 yr Dunno yet! I am a blank sheet, open to all suggestions. True but a significant difference in price [edit - cf the other dealer] on two of the models. Are Powerpedals THE importer or are they AN importer ? Ah, OK Ptarmigan, well without going into all the details......Powerpedals are THE importer. Cycleezee have a few of 2 models available. Both companies have a proven track record where customer after sales is concerned, in other words you would be completely safe buying from either of them. Which is why I first asked you which model you wanted as obviously Powerpedals have all models available whilst John just has the two...if its one of those two that you want and its a lot cheaper......one dealer is closer but dearer......the other is slightly further away but much cheaper.....they would both be totally trustworthy to deal with....... one of those 'daddy or chips' moments....you pay your money and take your choice Main thing is they are good bikes.... Lynda
November 9, 201213 yr Do make sure you ask for the throttle option if you go for a Tonaro. In my view it makes all the difference.
November 9, 201213 yr Absolutely agree hoppy, the throttle is a must and what makes these bikes unique. I never ride solely by throttle but find it really helpful for setting off especially up hills or in traffic. ( I can just imagine Phil and John both cringeing right now at the thought of fitting yet another throttle lolol Although to be honest they've probably both got it off to a fine art by now ) Lynda
November 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the headsup, I might have missed that little asterisk option.
November 11, 201213 yr Author Ah, OK Ptarmigan, well without going into all the details......Powerpedals are THE importer. Cycleezee have a few of 2 models available. And only have two .jpg pictures on the site, no further info. Another consideration I am having is the "distinctive" styling, very hip Italian, very stand out in a crowd, not sure that would be a good thing, I'd rather be inconspicuous ! ( I can just imagine Phil and John both cringeing right now at the thought of fitting yet another throttle lolol Although to be honest they've probably both got it off to a fine art by now ) What's that all about ?
November 11, 201213 yr Author I'd rather be inconspicuous ! Edit :- I'd rather my bike be inconspicuous !!!!
November 11, 201213 yr Well the info on the bikes is widely available on the internet anyway. Interesting comment about hip Italian styling, I hadnt really noticed, I tend to find the general appearance of most electric bikes vary very little, there only being so much you can do with the basics needed to cycle. However, Id be quite happy to be thought of as that woman with the hip Italian styled bike Throttle comment was only a reference to the fact that this last shipment were mistakenly sent without the specified throttle fitted, so it has been a retro fit when required....but no problem with that for us buyers, just means the suppliers have to work a bit harder before selling As said before....if you go down the Tonaro route for your bike.... make sure you buy with the throttle. Good luck anyway......but remember electric bikes arent really inconspicuous unless the battery is well and truly hidden, but the motor can always be seen.....just ride it and be proud of joining 'the club' Personally I prefer to be conspicuous, hence knitting a brightly coloured motor cover ......just in case no one had noticed it, Im currently working on even more knitted additions to brighten up my cycling experience...... Lynda
November 11, 201213 yr Author Well the info on the bikes is widely available on the internet anyway. Yes, sorry, what I meant to say (but didnt complete the thought!) was that there was no description to say if the two had throttles ! Throttle comment was only a reference to the fact that this last shipment were mistakenly sent without the specified throttle fitted, so it has been a retro fit when required. I see ! thanks. .but remember electric bikes arent really inconspicuous unless the battery is well and truly hidden, but the motor can always be seen.....just ride it and be proud of joining 'the club' Personally I prefer to be conspicuous, hence knitting a brightly coloured motor cover Perhaps I should have said "less conspicuous", more of a traditional bike frame style with conventional mudgards etc. and why I added the extra note to say "my bike" cos I was thinking of when it is chained up by itself saying "come look at me " !! :) ......just in case no one had noticed it, Im currently working on even more knitted additions to brighten up my cycling experience...... Good thinking, and to keep your experience warm. and this household has just aquired its third knitting machine, quite why she needs that many I dont understand !
November 11, 201213 yr and this household has just aquired its third knitting machine, quite why she needs that many I dont understand ! Oh dear.....dont you ??......of COURSE she needs at LEAST three.....chunky, normal, then a more modern up to date one....then theres a linker, a ribber.......the list goes on....... Been many years since I machine knitted but I appreciate the obvious need for a collection Which , of course, would leave the door open for you to start a collection of 'bikes for all seasons '....... "every cloud " etc etc Lynda
November 11, 201213 yr Author Oh dear.....dont you ?? LOL! Well, it has taken several decades and perhaps i am slowly beginning to ! Which , of course, would leave the door open for you to start a collection of 'bikes for all seasons '....... "every cloud " etc etc Yep, thort you might like that ;) !
November 11, 201213 yr Yep, thort you might like that ! Nope......I thought YOU might like that lol Now just go and get a bike bought before any more knitting machines come to clutter up the house..... Lynda
