8 fun moter lead damaged how to replace repair?

hi all not my week I removed my 8 fun rear moter wheel kudos mtb type because the rubber clip had been lost and replaced with a very tight cable tie by local lbs.

cutting said tie in not so good lighting ,and wearing specs I have noticed I have cut through one of the inner cables (black lead also parltly exposed yellow and green wire)

the cable terminates in 8fun 6 pin male connector goes to female then controller.

the damage is about 3" from end of connecter.

cannot have too bulky a fix as wheel nut needs to slide down the wire?

its going to be realy tricky to solder a bit of wire in can these moter cables be bought resolder inside moter?

1 minites haste causing a big problem

that break looks easy to repair. You need a scalpel knife to open up the black outer insulation, 15mm of 2mm heat shrink tubing to repair the broken wire, 6cm of 15mm heatshrink tubing to reseal the black outer insulation and a 15W or 25W Antex soldering iron. Have you got all that? I can post link where you can purchase all these things if you don't.

Call , speak to and find a local electrical repair outfit

If you don't own a soldering iron etc this may be cheaper

Before I learned myself I used a local computer repair shop.

All you really need is some one with mediocre soldering skills

And make sure the wheel nut is beyond the join point first, so that any swollen section due to insulation after the repair doesn't stop you fitting the wheel.

thanks trex got adjustable heat soldering irons but the black wire is severed and about a 4mill gap between the two ends.

which might close a bit when outer sheath is removed never used heatshrink .
but maplins is nearby, ok on soldering but eyesight and steady hands are not what they were.

would prefer if possible to get it repaired but no idea locally

near Watford herts,
but I have removed outer sheath by about 15mm either side of damaged section, the severed wire is very thin 1.5mm at most.
my wire strippers were no use to bare the ends so cigarette lighter to peel back some of the plastic .

I now have to find and solder a bit of thin wire to bridge the gap on said black wire. of to maplins for heatshrink etc

I managed to repair said lead, but it took longer than expected maplins variable soldering iron ?-50w just about melted solder , could not get a good joint using 0.2 wire to bridge the gap and used fuse wire in the end.

heat shrink did not (shrink) using a hairdryer.

all seems to be working ok

use the side of your soldering iron tip - much hotter than the hair dryer.

For heat shrinking I use these.

A butane gas soldering torch with the air turned down by 50% so that you don't get a super hot oxidising flame...unless you are making creme brulee.
If getting one of these make sure that you can adjust the air.
A semi luminous flame is useful as you can curl the flame under objects.

Very controllable when working on small sections of heat shrink.
It doesn't have to be Dremel, but be wary, there are some cheap nasty ones out there and don't use naked flames on or near batteries.
They are also good for fine silver soldering or brazing, not for soft solder.

A hot air gun with adjustable output is good for large areas of heat shrink.
Remember to shield objects that don't want heat to get at.

Yes indeed Alan, but you wouldn't want to do a lot of heat shrinking with a lighter and they are useless for creme brulee
