I have recently purchased a 4000w electric scooter with a 60V 38Ah 18650 lithium battery.
It was ordered from China and with much scepticism it finally arrived almost 2 months later.
It is a fast at almost 42Mph and last roughly 25mls per charge.
But after only 1 week the problem started.

When I turn the key on and twist the throttle it jerks momentarily then cuts off.
The voltmeter states it is near fully charged and stays on but no response.
Then when I turn it off then back on again it will jerk once then cut off, what's going on?.
I'm told it could be a loose wire, but I'm completely at a loss.
The seller is not answering any calls(unsurprisingly), I really need some help.

If you have not already done so, please make sure you get it type approved, insured and licensed before you use it. That's if you can.

It may be possible to register it as a motorbike, the police will consider it as such. If you are stopped by the police whilst using it and have a driving licence, you could well tot up enough points to have your licence taken away for at least twelve months. The scooter would probably be crushed.

what a beast, I'd want a seat though.
for once I'd decline - I have a DIY 3KW BPM, so its not for any prudish legal reasons. Having experienced 3KW in a normal bike I simply cant believe 4KW can work on a scooter without serious risk of bodily harm. getting pulled over by cops is one thing, having a medic induce one into coma in A&E is quite another.

I agree, I was thinking of something limited to 4 mph for going round a show at the NEC, a bit like this one

Thank you for the response, but I only and I mean only use it in open flat private ground with helmets and other protective gear.

Can you Artstu or anybody please possibly tell me what is wrong with this scooter?, I put in key, turn it on then it will jerk once then it simply cuts off, the battery voltmeter stays same level whilst this happens so that should means al loose wire or faulty controller?, I'm stumped...
Also when i turn the LED lights on it does the same thing!.

Perhaps it is cutting out to protect the controller from burning out because something is stopping the motor from turning.
@d8veh may be able to assist you.

It could be one of so many problems. The best recourse would be to refer to the manufacturer.

It's always tempting to buy a product from China, but you need local support and back up esp. with such a powerful bike.

If you are using it on private land, you should make certain there is absolutely no public access, such as footpaths or bridal ways.

Thank you, unfortunately the seller has not responded to my messages, making me even more worried.

It's such a shame, this thing has barely been used, when it was working the speed was intense, but quality control underneath must be whack.

Did the fault occur after any particular incident?

Does the problem still occur if you only turn the throttle a tiny bit?

If it doesn't, you could have an issue with either your battery or charger.

If it does, there are lots of possibilities. For starters, try pulling apart the white plug with five (red, black, green, blue, yellow) wires and check to make sure that none of the metal pins have backed out of the plastic housing. Re-insert and test the scooter again.

Hello, what happened was when I looked under the footplate I noticed a couple of the phase wires(blue+yellow)were melting the plastic housing, so I replaced them with stronger solid brass connections, then the problems started. Upon turning ignition and twisting throttle it would jolt momentarily then stop dead, only occasionally turning it off then back in again would it work for a second jolt again then nothing, I stumped.
All the while the voltage meter stays level, what's going on?.

You should have explained the full story from the start. Without all the facts we cannot possibly know the situation that has since been revealed.

Forget everything explained previously. The fault is likely due to a bad connection in one of the phase wires. What kind of connectors have you used and how have you attached the new connectors?

I have just taken pictures of the new connections, pure brass blocks with heat shrinking around, much better than steel with plastic housings.
here's the wierd thing, when I turn the handle bars left it not only lowers the voltage but it also jolts forwards, just the once then when I straighten it up and turn it left again it does the same thing!

So there's more information that you haven't told us about..... What electronic parts do you have mounted on your handlebars, eg, throttle, display, brakes etc?

These brass blocks, are they crimped or soldered?

Also, have you disconnected or altered anything else during the repair you carried out?

Do you own a multimeter?

no, nothing else was disconnected whilst we worked on the coloured phase wires, the brass blocks are also crimped.
Previously turning the handle bars left whilst stationary would drop voltage right down, now turning scooter handle bars left makes it jerk once then stops, why is this happening?, and Thank You danielrlee for you help..

Just a clutch brake, throttle and voltmeter.
I tried to make a video but file was not allowed.
Voltmeter goes up and down depending which direction I turn it.
