36v to 48v Bafang BBS01 250watt

I know this is an old thread but I just looked at this listing on Amazon and it says 36v/48v and lets you add a 48v battery in to the kit. Is there something I am missing or did they upgrade or change the controller in some way?

The controller only allow a specific battery because if it senses too high of a voltage it gives an error and doesn't work. So in the kits linked above, the customer would select the voltage package they want and the appropriate controller will be included.

Ah okay. Many thanks. I can only assume that the 48v option is the better one. I would have thought that there would be a torque increase as well no?

My cube pictured has the 48v 250watt ok for a legal motor, but no torque increase over a 36v 80nm
firmware is factory locked to 12 amps so a power increase is not possible

Which Cube model is it by the way?

I’ve seen a few threads where people are sometimes charging what I thought was the stock 15amps to 18amps. Maybe I’m missing something

The cube is an ams 120 pro not a easy conversion the bb had to be machined
Yes you are missing something the new 48v bbs01 is fixed in the firmware and appears tamper proof and cannot be adjusted up from 12 amps. the software box is blanked out all other boxes can be changed in the usual way not found a work around not for want of trying
Earlier/ and most new versions of the 36v could push 20 amps and the etm version even 25 amps
If you want more power/speed the 48v bbs02 is 18 amps 500watts and 24 amps 750watt and if you flash carls special sauce even more power and run 52v battery

Okay. So maybe the newest 36v is the r way to go for me. Is that the BBS01B 36v? I’ve seen them for sale on Amazon Uk I’d not like to be locked out of adjusting stuff to be honest.

I’m going to try and build street legal Uk to avoid any anxiety. Love the 500w idea as it’s all about the torque for hills for me but I’m going to try and be sensible and legal just in case an accident occurred.

As soon as you adjust settings max current speed limiter etc you are no longer strictly legal just have the correct engraved markings
My cube 29er has a 42t for summer but will not spin out ,but with a 36 t it will climb like a goat but has a lower top speed, i now miss my bbs02 that used to be in this bike

Sure. I can live with being outside the law slightly due to settings with the 250w engraving being the peace of mind bit. Much appreciate your views !!

Do not get me wrong have in the past run bbshd at 150watt+ , but with the current local enforcement due to a few idiots that have drawn unwanted attention to the rest of us the bbs01 36v is a good choice

Just want to stay the right side of the rules but wring out as much torque as I can for the hilly Bristol streets

I've had my BBS01B 250w 36v for just under 2 months. I live in Bolton.
I can tell you right now that it's more than powerful enough for Bristol.
I've set my PAS levels so that each one gives a 10% increase in power than the last for easy management. Level 5 (50%) gets my 700c 30kg tourer plus my own 68kg lump up 15% hills with no problems.

Great. Cheers for the insight. I’ve just got to get the one that isn’t locked out but from what this thread has taught me it’s more problematic on the 48v ones and not the newer 36v ones. I’ve just got to find a suitable donor bike now. I used to own a Boardman hybrid pro which I loved and wished I’d kept. May eventually fit an a Alfine hub to it.

Locked out? As in the 15mph limit?
Mine was limited by software. A specialised USB cable and an app/program allowed me to adjust the max speed to 40kph (whatever that is in mph). That max can be set within the motor itself or by the display on your handlebar. Using the display you could tweak that max speed on the fly should the local Bobby question you. Unlikely. They have bigger fish to fry.

Yeah. Peter.c referenced that advice although I think it was the 48v model or at least some of them.
