I am just about to go and do the Christmas Shopping on the Argos special and was working out how to secure the turkey on top of the rear rack to leave the other bags free. The car parks in the supermarkets have been clogged and it is a relief I will be using the bike. Went outside and feels particularly cold with a biting wind but I am getting layered up and have heated clothing so don't mind the occasional longer runs also. How much of a demand do you think there is/ really could be for using these regularly in the U.K. spending that amount I would prefer an enclosed quadricycles like the ami for regular runs at those sort of ranges. Back in the day I used to commute 16 miles each way on a 531 racer but in the cold wet winters nearly getting knocked off twice in the morning (car windscreen misted up turning left in a rush ). We have more safer networks now like cycle paths though. You see the occasional illegal e bikes bikes on them but you also get the legal heavyweight ebikes e.g. the icebreaker design cargo/ family bikes bombing down them hardly pedalling (cadence sensor) and almost got hit by one the other day around a tight corner where I used the bell but they didn't. It is going that way though . I think there is now also a consultation to increase power to 500 watts. Last time I asked the technical team at the DVSA about where you could use throttle bikes (in 2022 when the word got around you could type approve them) they emailed me to confirm their opinion was once type approved they could not be used legally on cycle paths. They were aware of opinions that the Dft may interpret this differently ( we were discussing my area). It is a bit of a mute point though in my opinion if all you have to do to bomb along (possibly with a 500 watt if it becomes legal) on cycle paths is just go through the motions of turning the pedals with no effort occasionally.

When can we have these in UK? Why is our government not encouraging us to use such vehicles? Why can't we get insurance?

That vehicle must be gobble electrons quite frugally - at my usual 16Wh/mile, I'd need about 2kWh for 200km = about three 19.2Ah batteries: one connected, two carried either side of the pannier rack. Such a journey in one sitting would give saddle soreness new levels of terror. Given the weight of the thing, I reckon the rider would have to put in quite a lot of effort to get 200km from 2800Wh.

Safety would be my main concern. Few months ago somebody managed to ram my car while we all were stuck in traffic because (ironically) there was another car accident up ahead. There are far to many shite drivers and iphone zombies around to ride low profile vehicle.

Take away the pedalling and it can be done in the UK in one of the small electric vehicle categories.

I have 170km range already, on two 400Wh batteries, on flattish terrain, with moderate load, but only averaging 18km/h.

RE Insurance.. A chap on ES recently suggested a 'minor hassle' route to get cover on diy e-mopeds..
the 'Q Plate route' ?? - apparently the existing framework for diy kit cars etc? He seemed confident that Q plate insurers would at a price provide cover. Not tested the waters myself but thought it worthy of note since the subject has come up..

The insurance issue is not about e-mopeds, it is about covering the 'speed pedelec' or s-pedelec class. These are the same as a pedelec but with assistance speed limit of 45km/h instead 25 km/h.

Ahh - my vague plans faltered at the first obstacle and i just recalled the hurdle and not its specifics.. Cheers..

Surprisingly, I really like the look of that Fido bike. This video goes through the pros and cons. I'm not generally drawn to fat tyre bikes, but that looks really nice and has nice features. Not sure about the app part mind, and of course, the 750 watt motor and full speed throttle would cause it to fall foul of current UK e-bike regulations, so I won't be buying it - but if I could ride it legally, I think I'd be tempted.

Surprisingly, I really like the look of that Fido bike.
Me too. To be honest my bike is very similar and and does everything better than this Fiido. TSDZ8 and 48V 17.5Ah can keep me riding whole day. If needed I can easily install extra battery to more than double range. Strong rear rack can take huge panniers and impressive load.
Having said all that I like this Fiido Titan. Not sure why... Maybe it's rugged feel.
