2 Wheel drive ?

I realise this could be a very silly question but could you have a motor on the front wheel as well as the back wheel or would steering be a problem, if not on two wheels could you do it on a tricycle,
The reason i ask is that i live close to epping forest and think it could be fun riding it in there.

No problem steering and better in mud. Just ileagal unless there is no public access to the land.

You can. I've done it and got the tee shirt. I even built a bike with three motors.

There's no problem with steering.

You need two controllers. The battery needs to be able to provide enough current for two motors, which is normally at least 30A, so you can't do it with a 10 to 15Ah lithium-ion one that you find on a normal ebike. If you want to use one throttle for both motors, you have to buffere the signal or build a double throttle.

It's not so easy on a tricycle because of the way the wheels are held on, which makes it difficult to fit hub-motors.

Of course any bike with a front hub motor is in effect 2 wheel drive, front electric, rear human powered and a lot less complicated.

to me it doesn't sound silly at all, two BPM's (perhaps 500 and 350 W) with some serious lipoid would, I think, create the bicycle equivalent of a unimog

And the simplest way to create two wheel e-drive on a bike is to add a front wheel hub motor kit to any crank unit e-bike. If the latter is a pedelec it also solves the problem of how to deal with two throttles.
