Need some "bike park Tyres" good grip for trails, climbing, risking my life down hill and plugging through mud etc etc.

Looking around are 2.4" any good as the extra volume with a hardtail is very attractive.

Also do they fit well in a Haibike 29

Well I think the sausage inner tube is off the shopping list. £££££

I need a set of specialist tyres to join Chris at Hopton Woods and Forest of Dean etc. to have a different riding experience.

Great fun can be had when you have great grip.

Having a ride on Chris's full seven while he rode mine, was a valuable experience for both of us.

The rapid Robs I had on were worn out and not up to the conditions, I am looking for some specialist tyres to use when going to tracks then change back to my more flexible tyre after.

The balloon effect of a larger tyre is attractive.

As I only have the hardnine I need to help it out as much as possible.

Those Magic Mary's always get a good write up. When time comes, I'd replace with them? Although the knarly downhillers at the Black Mountain C C said Maxxxis were the best. I don't know which ones?

Lot's of good advise given here Chris, so can't really go wrong as a starter. Either way you will either be happy with your choice or like most of us changes tyres over the years until you decide which you prefer. Much is personal choice.

Remember more choice leads to more confusion (marketing speak), and you can apply this to advise etc.

I will second Eddie's advice about checking clearance.

The latest 2" and wider tyres are big in all directions and may not fit every 29er frame or fork.

Quite commonly bike makers put a 29er fork with 650b/27.5 mountain bike tyres, and even then there's not loads of clearance.

Magic Mary is a bit cheaper here, even with some postage.

It's a minefield so; I have ordered a pair of Smart Sams with green guard and a Magic Mary super gravity.

Punctures spoil enjoyment, hopefully these should resist as good as any. I am sticking with tubes with slime in as it's easier for me to swap tyres.

Going to run with the Smart Sams for general use and fit the Magic Mary on the front when I go playing with Chris.

I will let you know how it goes.

Good choice. The best tyre by far, for puncture resistance are marathons mtb, but i found they were too big a compromise vs grip etc.
The second best for punter resistance are smart sams with guard, but they still puncture now and again compared with marathons.

Interesting to see the difference between the Marathon MTB and Smart Sam.

Maybe summer/winter choice.

Just have to see how much drag there is with the Magic Mary?

Ideal set up would be a spare set of rims !

just make sure it is the right way round as only rolls one way direction wise.

and if any one is about take cover as can fling a tyre lever 10m if you dont snap it in half.
