hi all have done 1700 miles on Carrera subway one with cd kit, no punctures ,
the last week 2 slow punctures (thorns)
replace with £9 slime tube, go to supermarket, tons of shopping , come out to find rear tyre flat slime all over rear oif bike.
no walk assist push to local cycle hub thankfully about 3/4 mile.
fit with tube £4/labour £8 + half bottle of slime this was Thursday.
saterday another puncture but near home/replace tube.
today another puncture but a mystery one looks like a pinch type puncture but on the valve side of tube can find no obvious cause.
also found the kenda tyres very difficult to remove from the wheel, don't know if they have a wire bead.

strange that can go a long time without punctures , and then get loads

Time for some puncture proof tyres, I think.

Ahh! The puncture gremlins, I know about them.,once on tour doing the end to end, I had an embarrassment of deflationary, all on the rear wheel of course.
Traced the problem to the rim tape,a run around with PVC tape cured that, at the time folk were using a tape 'twixt tube and tyre, that got pulled too, as the ends of tape chased punctures as well.

Those puncture-proof strips/liners are a complete waste of time. Everybody I no that tried them got punctures from the strip itself before they ever had a chance to get a puncture through the tyre.

I'll remind you that there's always an exception to the rule and I'm it. I'm nothing but happy with the performance of tyre liners over the last couple of years - I've seen an easy 90% puncture reduction.

One possible reason for my positive experience is that I always chamfer the edges of the tyre liner with an abrasive before fitting and have never suffered from my inner tube being eaten away like most others.

Our liners punctured the tyre within 10 miles, so we had a look and could see that it was the edge of the liner that had caused the puncture, so we very carefully feathered all the edges and reassembled with double thickness tubes just to be sure. After about 50 miles, we were sitting outside a pub down by the River Severn having a pint in the sunshine, when suddenly the bike started hissing. It had been waiting there quietly for about 30 minutes, so a bit of a surprise for us. We feared that the battery had shorted, so panic stations while we ripped out the battery, but the noise carried on. Then we spotted the flat tyre. IIRC, both liners ended up in the river, which is probably the best place for them. At least they made a few love-lost eels happy.

I too have suffered a number of punctures in the last few weeks whereas I hadn't had any really since Christmas.

I've been told that its important to run tyres at the correct marked pressure however each puncture has come within a few days of checking the tyres and topping the pressure up.

I've taken to running them a few pounds under the marked pressure.

As I commute to work and punctures are a real inconvenience I try to avoid them as much as possible by combining the best puncture proof tire technology I can find with slime filled tubes.

I have never had a puncture using specialized armadillo tyres, and likewise with schwalbe smart sam.

I did have a side wall failure where the tyre meets the wheel on the rear wheel with the schwalbe smart sam leading to a spectacular explosive puncture when the inner tube pushed out of the resultant hole but this occurred at a very high milage (3800) and perhaps I should have changed the tyre a bit sooner!

I am heavy 100kg ish, carry two full panniers on a rear rack and often use a 16 mile cross country route to work with plenty of puncture hazards before a 10 mile road trip home.

When I got my first electric bike the same off road route would inflict daily punctures, so for me the two brands I have used have been incredibly effective.

Putting this into perspective I ride about 3500 miles a year and since fitting the two brands of tyre above have not had one puncture caused by something penetrating the casing.

I still run tubes so P's are either pinch with lower psi or thorns etc after hedge cutting.

Recently had a Scwalbe CX tyre partially tear/delaminate on the rear above the rim line ( no flat though), not sure how or why but possibly was due to the very rough track surface flint/shalon the Wykeham Fm section of the Downs Link.
