10S BMS balance wiring

Hi All Knowledgable ones,
i am trying to wire a new BMS on to my 10S 36V battery, the old BMS had the black balance wire to the right of all the wires and the new BMS has it the opposite way round. I cut and soldered the red and black wires to match the new BMS but when i plugged it in it started to heat up so i turned it off. my question is ......where is B1 and B10 on the BMS, does it always start from next to the black, so Black Neg Then B1,B2, B3 etc there are no corresponding numbers on the BMS

Use a meter and the continuity setting to determine which end pin is connect3ed to common ground, and that will indicate the connection for the 'black wire'

Hiya,
I presume that it is the red and black wires are just switched around, they are either at the left or right and the rest of the balance wires follow, im just wanting to know if B1,B2 etc always follow from the black, eg, Black, then B1, B2 etc

All the wires have to be switched around so one end is the black 0v, the next is 4v (approx), the next is 8v, 12v, etc until the top red one 40v.
B0 is 0v ground
B1 is 4v
B2 is 8v
B10 is 40v.

The problem now is whether you did any damage to the balancing system, so you need to check it before you install the battery. When it's fully charged and you leave it on charge, all the 10 bleed resistors should go warm. After you switch off the charger, check again and all should be cold. That's a simple test for the ballancing working AND none of the bleed transistors are stuck open. If any of the transistors are stuck open, they'll bleed their cell group down to zero volts and ruin your battery, so it's very important to confirm that.

Typically B-/B0 is usually black and B10 is usually red. B1 - B9 then follow numerically from B0.
Always use a meter to check the wire voltages.

Hi all,
in the end i decided to make my own battery 10s 10ah, all done as per micah's tutorials, i am getting 40.5v which is within range, when i connected it to the bike using the same connections, the power meter on the handlebars said 3 dots (full) but 10 mins later it went down to 2, then 1 then flashing 1, the battery still reads 40.5v but only 1 light on the handlebars, i'm a little confused as to why ??

Thanks, but what details are needed, i am using EVE 2500mah cells with a discharge rate of 3C, i created a 10s 4p battery, with a 10 cell 30amp BMS, i am getting 40.5 volts at the connection to the bike, but the controls on the handlebar showed 3 dots (full) then after a few minutes went to 2 dots, then 1 dot, then flashing 1 dot, but i'm still getting 40.5 volts

I can understand what's happening, but I need to know what you have so that I can diagnose your problem. Last chance, which Eve 2500mah cells do you have, and where did you get them from?

3.7v 2500mah 3C, 18650 cell, purchased from china

A link to the seller and item or a photo of the cell ID info usually found printed on its exterior to enable identifying the cells and their specifications would be a big help. the cell id printed on the wraps is partially visible in one of your pics above..

The set of cells produced in china with a nominal 3.7v capacity and 2500mah 3c in an 18650 format is pretty big.. Is 'eve' a manufacturer, brand, or arbitrary label?

Its not unusual for online ads to be misleading frequently due to translation issue but often due to intent also.

Behaviour your describing is indicative of 'dodgy cells' suffering from excessive voltage drop under load, digging out a datasheet and determining the expected performance/mass etc off the cell will help id any fakes.
