How does it know how much support to give?

so if I have a 250W motor is it going to give me 750W?

I have a Giant Full E and the literature says it gives up to 300% support. Can anyone tell me what this means? Does it mean that if I am putting in 100W it is giving me another 200W to make 300W in total?
