    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

Not that it's an accurate gauge, but I still had all the battery life bars on the display. I've had 35+ miles out of it in the past at similar speeds.

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

OK, I have just had a fantastic ride home in the sunshine on the eMate. I took the long way home from work along some quiet country roads and even risked a bridleway. The latter was a bit muddy, so I just slowed down. Even so, I did 11.7 miles in 37 minutes - 18.9MPH average speed. I had it on...

Oxygen eMate MTB Power Problem After Riding in Rain

Time for an update: I managed to remove the battery gubbins & thought I'd stick it in a box in the airing cupboard for a couple days with some silica gel thingamajigs I had lying about. Anyway, it seems to have done the trick! The power surge issue I had before this happened is still there, but...

    Newbie seeking advice

There's an ongoing thread about Oxygen bikes here, although it is the eMate MTB.

    Buckled rim

Generally speaking, the dearer the rim, the lighter, which isn't necessarily what you want for an ebike.

Oxygen eMate MTB Motor Noise & Vibration

OK, the freewheel works fine, but when I lift off the power whilst pedalling there is a short, rasping noise (like a clutch engaging/disengaging). The best way I can describe the noise is that it sounds like a donkey with a sore throat! Only not quite as loud. The sound itself may be hard to...

Oxygen eMate MTB Motor Noise & Vibration

Sorry Dave, I don't think this is the cassette. This is far too loud a noise for that and makes quite a distinct judder through the drivetrain. I don't think the cassette would make such a noise nor vibration.

    Buckled rim

That's the going rate. Spokes will be about 50-75p each, plus nipples, plus wheelbuilding costs, unless you do it yourself. One other point: rear rims rarely buckle/deform like this, IME, so are you keeping a close eye on your tyre pressures? Not having enough air in them will increase the...

    Buckled rim

Better safe than sorry with rime, really. Mavic are good; their A319 would be a good replacement, but make sure you buy the one to match your hub spoke hole number. Easy to buy the wrong one. DAHIKT! Does the bike have disc brakes? A disc-specific rim would also be good, although the weight...

Oxygen eMate MTB Motor Noise & Vibration

I'm used to the rather loud whine of the motor on my Oxygen. It's a RWD machine, so the worst of the noise is behind me, so no big deal. However, since I got the machine very wet a couple of weeks ago, I've noticed that there is often a short, rasping noise when I lift off the power by stopping...

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

I have now fitted the dynohub and light & am trying it out this evening. The Spiker tyres have been usurped by the Land Cruisers. I have taken a cross country route home, but I'll put any further trips off until the bridleways have dried out more. There will be a more detailed update once I...

Oxygen eMate MTB Power Problem After Riding in Rain

Right, I've spoken to the dealer who suggested a bit of TLC in the cleaning department on the battery/controller contacts. I've done that and I'll check if it's helped later. Regarding the controller, there are only 2 screws on the top of the box it sits in and one of them won't come away and...

Oxygen eMate MTB Power Problem After Riding in Rain

As it happens, the bin men refused to take away a load of big boxes last week. Looks like I might be needing them! I'll check the controller box when I get back home. Hopefully, it'll power me back. Luckily I've taken off the Ice Spiker tyres and it's a lot easier to pedal now.

Oxygen eMate MTB Power Problem After Riding in Rain

Hmm, thanks for the advice. I rather suspected I might have to do some DIY. The bike is under warranty. I will see if I can get in touch to sort things out. Failing that, I'll get the tool kit ready.

Oxygen eMate MTB Power Problem After Riding in Rain

I have started a new thread, as I suspect this issue may be different from the other similar issue I had recently. (But it may not...) Anyway, last Tuesday I rode my bike home in a downpour. A real humdinger of a rain storm. The bike switched itself off. I decided to ride the last 5 miles home...

Trade Members Being Too Overtly Salesy in 'What Bike?' Threads?

Which brings me back to my original question. Why deviate?

Trade Members Being Too Overtly Salesy in 'What Bike?' Threads?

I'd agree if the suggested bikes always matched the OP's stated needs. Sometimes they don't and it feels like they have simply pushed a bike that might, tenuously, get sort-of close to those, but not really. Edited.

Trade Members Being Too Overtly Salesy in 'What Bike?' Threads?

I have noticed that at least one trade member takes every single opportunity on many 'what bike should I buy?' threads to very overtly - and rather unsubtlely - push their wares onto the thread. Now, sometimes the suggestion is valid and the bike might suit the task in question, other times the...

    Is an ebike for me?

Being the contrary type, I'd say spend as much as possible on the bike (& lock), but skimp on the accessories, for now at least. I started off with a cheapish ebike and soon worked out that it was a cheap (but not cheerful) bike with basic, heavy componentry that quickly fell apart under my not...

    Oxygen eMate Speed sensdor switch

Hmm, if it's not the same connector I'll leave well alone. The joint is in a very vulnerable position and gets a lot of crud thrown at it. Although my soldering skills are up to the job, I'm not sure I'd trust heat shrink to be up to the job of keeping out the stuff thrown at it. I'll dig it...
