battery life seems fairly poor for me about 4000 miles

Not as I understand it. It is NOT a constant reduced charge as you imply but a 'topping up' charge to compensate for natural drain. The 'equipment' to check is simple and cheap. Just plug it into a current meter. No current = no charge. I can assure you my charger, in common with most modern...

battery life seems fairly poor for me about 4000 miles

Modern chargers shut off after full charge is reached so leaving it plugged in does no harm whatsoever. It is usually indicated by all the charge lights going out meaning there is no output from the charger. The advice I was given was to top up after every use with lithium batteries.

    New E-Bike

Twenty mile ride yesterday on top of a short five mile jaunt the day before, so 25 miles accumulated so far without recharging. Still showing four charge lights out of the five lit and a predicted 38 miles still available on the computer. It always seems to be 38 miles, whatever, but that...

    New E-Bike

Bill the grips are a straight fit on those new handlebars. The old grips come off easy enough if you start twisting at the inside and work your way out to break the seal. If you have a problem just pull the end plugs out and using a thin piece of plastic slide it between the grip and the bars...

    New E-Bike

I spoke to an employee at a large cycle shop the other day about both pedals and handlebars and as a Raleigh agent he said it was about the most common complaint about them. Given that, I wonder why Raleigh persist with either, especially on the Crossbar model as they look completely out of...

    Pushing ebike

Jim are you on good terms with any of the shopkeepers as you could always ask if you could leave your battery with them. Alternatively can you not incorporate one of your locks through the battery carrying handle for added security in addition to those on the bike. I have done that for short...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

I went out today as the weather is fine with a very light breeze and selected TOUR mode from the off. It gave me an estimated range of 24 miles. I did 12 miles and used TURBO mode twice uphill on the nature reserve otherwise it was TOUR all the way. On getting home the battery indicator dropped...

    Help with bike for commute

I found I had to change those 'comfort' handlebars as they were anything but comfortable and a change to straight handlebars and a fiddle with the seat position made it feel a different bike. I have the crossbar model and the riding position is now very similar to my MTB. In fact with some...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

I have the 300 watt battery too and my estimated range never varies. It always says 37 miles left no matter the state of the battery. I was told by the dealer that it isn't the most accurate bit of kit on the bike and not to give it too much credence. He was absolutely right. I do fifteen...

    Help with bike for commute

I have the basic Motus, but in hindsight, wish I had bought at least the TOUR if only for the extra gear. The lack of built in lights is hardly a problem as I wouldn't like to power them from the bikes battery anyway and I like to remove all accessories when not in use. The Motus Tour would be...

    Raliegh ebike deal

Wish I had seen that before I bought the Motus though the Bosch system was the main selling point for me. However, at that price I think I would have snatched the dealers arm off!

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

You can download a free app from Google Play or the I-store to give you distance and speed measured by GPS on a smart phone or tablet. You just have to persevere as the GPS signal takes a little longer to respond so there is a slight delay. If you can get it to read a constant speed of say 18...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

The motor most definitely does assist at 17/18 mph in ECO mode as I can tell when I turn to OFF. I'm in the fortunate position, as I posted earlier, of having a seemingly 'faulty' machine that assists to 22+ mph. I'm certainly not complaining at all and I shall 'forget' to mention it on its...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

Then I am confused as mine is with the motor off which would indicate the motor isn't doing much even in ECO mode so the battery isn't really being asked much of it? It would seem we just have two different styles of riding with me not really using the motor unless my body demands it. That's...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

I did 15 miles today flat (I live in a mossland farming area East of Warrington where the only real hills are man made) with some undulating and muddy off road and again, on the tarmac, the motor was off and I maintained a gentle 13/14mph. I used ECO off road most of the time and even a short...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

I just don't understand this at all. Have I got the superstar 300watt battery of all batteries or have you guys got faulty ones? Even at my weight it quotes 90+ miles and of the trips I have done so far the battery has performed to full expectation. Perhaps if you explained what terrain and...

    Pushing ebike

Jimi using two quality U locks and a disc brake lock I carry in my rear panniers takes no time at all taken in context. I have the same fear but very, very rarely leave it unattended and even then it's usually within my vision. I take note of what the thrives say, not the lock manufacturers...

    Pushing ebike

It's only very recently, now I get out more with the ebike, that I realise since I retired just how bad traffic is. I'm thankful I don't have to go through the daily commute any more even though it was only a 24 mile round trip on the bike. Mind you even in the early 90's it only took about...

    35-40 mile round trip commute

The good thing is, currently, you don't need a fantastic budget these days and I can only see it getting better? They are superb value for money and specs are going through the roof compared to three years ago.

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

You might think again if you had my heart and spinal problems. I do have a mountain bike with road tyres but it was restricting just how far I could safely travel away from home as I was having difficulty getting back. I was going to call it a day but my doc suggested an ebike and how right he...
