From what i've read the motor and battery are the same on all but not seen if the frame is shared.

The wider tyres would hopefully give a bit more comfort, the drop bars for different hand positions and looks plus never had them before. The d31 would be my choice but struggling to justify the extra cash, i understand the components are presumably better, which is why i asked the original...

Not in a rush, spring would be fine.

Will be trying as many as possible next week at je james cycle fest. The gain, even though i can't be described as experienced or fit, seems to tick more boxes, i only have a 5 mile commute so bigger battery is not important, have a fair few steps to get in and out of work, so the lighter weight...

Don't really like crank motors, just not aestheticly pleasing to me.

Cheers, you've convinced me and probably saved me £800.

Too ugly, i can just about manage on my single speed but one gear either side would make life easier. Not planning on doing the sort of speeds you do.

Want less gears not more, never had gears before so the double ring would leave me looking down trying to work out what gear i'm in rather than looking where i'm going.

Will probably go with the double ring although i wouldn't and couldn't ride up a hill with no assist. Does the AA cover ebikes.

I'm thinking of buying the orbea gain, with drop bars, single chain ring and wide tyres. The d31 has all 3 at £2600. The d50 has double chain ring but thinner tyres at £1800 and the f40 has single ring, wide tyres but flat bars at £1700. The d31 has sram rival components, are these really worth...

    Gears

    Thanks for the replies, done a bit of googling trying to understand gearing, is this the logical way to look at it ; Eg. 34 x 50 front 11 x 32 back 1st 34 x 32 = 1.06 2nd 34 x 28 = 1.21 3rd 34 x 24 = 1.41 4th 50 x 32 = 1.56...

    Gears

Looking at getting a new bike with gears but never having had a bike with gears before, could i ask a probably stupid question. If the bike has 16 gears (2 at front 8 at back) when you want to change from 8th to 9th etc. do you have to click up 1 at front and click all the way back down to 1st...

    2018 ORBEA GAIN

Does the gain feel sluggish after assist cuts out on the flat or does the lighter weight mean it's still possible to ride for non cyclists.

    Riding over 15mph

Riding on the flat is the slightly annoying part, going above the cut off does not feel like treakle, maybe because of the momentum gained and the relative lightness of the bike but the leg spinning is where changing up would come in handy. Just not sure if forking out on a heavier bike with...

    Riding over 15mph

I'm considering upgrading from my gtech to something with gears. Riding after the cut off point is not particularly noticeable except for my legs spinning too fast. I presume having gears would stop this but would the extra weight have a negative effect. I have read of people feeling like they...

    Cyclists block...new bike jitters

for pleasure riding around the park i would also recommend the gtech, although i struggle to get 20 miles out of the battery. as fatwomble said, it can be hard work on steep hills and legs spin too fast if you want to go above 16 mph, but is a pleasure to just idle along with hardly any effort...

    front hub on a gtech

it gets me up but with a fair bit of effort from myself, which is a shock after such an effortless commute up to that point. on reflection maybe i should have gone for something else, 3 gears would have been perfect, a lower one for the hill, higher one for the flats, seem to be able to ride...

    front hub on a gtech

so are there really small batteries (size wise) available, thinking a front hub could be used on steep hill on commute for 5 mins a day. thought my legs and lungs would get stronger every day but that seems to get cancelled out by getting a day older every day.

    front hub on a gtech

is there any reason why i can't add a front hub motor with a throttle to my gtech.
