    Cyclotricity 250W fronthub speed

My bike with a BBS 01 motor will run at 18 mph on the flat. And D8veh will remind you that it could reach 90 mph at beachy head. Oh the controller is bust so the above figures are unpowered. The 1000 watt with restrictions is pushing the law. A bit further than some other manufacturers do .

    Insurance

You can register a bike as a moped. That would be legal, but helmet and insurance would be a challenge.

    Joining batteries together ?

There needs to NO way the two batteries can be connected together when in different state of charge. That could lead to very high current causing melted wires or even start of a battery thermal runaway event. Google ;for what that looks like:eek:

46yr old tubby guy trying to get back to the great outdoors

The 250 watt thing is a legal technicality, most bikes are much higher peak power. including the bbs 01 which can do over 750 watts through your gears so can climb any mountain. Test ride a few bikes first. I'm 100 kg ish and rode up the hills around Bristol and bath on a so called lowpower...

    Solar to Charge your e-Bike

Adding a second powered wheel is illegal( in the U.K.). So only suitable for non electric bikes. A full covered wheel is a bit if an issue in areo terms not good in side winds. The .5 sm of solar panels will generate very little compared to the 400 watt hours most users have in there batteries...

46yr old tubby guy trying to get back to the great outdoors

Welcome, if you have good bikes already then a kit will give you performance without the price. £600 should get you a crank drive setup even less for a hub drive.

Hub verses External gears for mid drive

Replaced my derailleur with Alfine 8 spd and it's been all fine. Slightly lowered top end over the 27 spd gears but less chainline hassle and great at traffic lights.

    Batteries too expensive!!

Lead acid is cheap. Heavy bulky with low power density. Go high tech and it costs more but I have 21 ah of 36v lithium it cost less than £200 and weighs under 4 kg. That's light and cheap for its performance.
