    Real Life Range

I get 25 miles average on an all off road ride with plenty of climbing but working through the modes and still have 25% left. But i do use a fair bit of eco for the first part of the ride, partly to get the workout. On turbo I’d estimate I’d get 15 miles out of a battery riding all off road...

    I see your cheating then!

It gets under my skin when people say I'm cheating. Partly because I know how much effort I've put in that day, but also because I just think it's rude. I'd never think of shouting that at someone. I actually believe they think that they are just being funny, but it touches a nerve so I guess...

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

I use Outdoors GPS. All the official OS maps available and so completely accurate re bridleways etc. You either pay for a map for lifetime or subscribe and have access to all maps which is good if u travel more. Download map tiles onto phone and tablet for offline use. You can draw up routes...

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Okay. Replacement Nobby Nic 3" arrived yesterday. Still super tight to fit, however I think I have it sussed. Three of the heavy duty Park Tools levers are required. First one in and hooked on a spoke, second has to be almost next to it, say one spoke away. Again hooked and third one on...

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Hmmm. I struggled getting one under the bead edge. Two thick I wouldn't stand a chance. Unless I'm misunderstanding and you mean side by side? But even that would be hard. The Park levers look good in that they are very thin at the front edge but then thicken to about double my previous...

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Thanks Ballynoes! There was plenty of pain to be felt! However getting bead off the rim groove wasn't an issue. I got the bead into the centre as you say, but I think the problem was that the rims are not very deep from edge to middle being wider and flatter Plus rims. So the advantage of...

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Well it helps to know it wasn't just me being useless. Thanks I'm thinking I may have to go for tubeless at least till I buy a new pair and then I'll look for the heaviest slackest bits of rubber I can! B

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Now that's a good idea. Don't need to worry about the weight obviously. I ordered another single Nobby Nic today from Chain Reaction just to match up but when I change the full set I'll look at some tougher ones like Magics. Ta B

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Thanks Eddie. That's really kind. i like to be as self sufficient as possible but that was one tough cookie. I really thought I was going to have to push the 6 or so miles back. I need to get my head around going tubeless. Sounds like there are issues with initial set up. Cheers. BB

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Yes I'll have to consider tubeless I guess. Would a repair kit have dealt with the 10mm split? I did make sure that the bead was centred but like I say the rim is not very deep so didn't make a huge difference. It was so bloody tight! But thanks for the reply. Pedros? Yes I think I once had...

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Good idea. I did think about that but in the middle of the downs I obviously didn't have any. When the new tyre arrives I'll try some on the refit. Thanks. Maybe a sachet of It in the rucksack?

    A Plus Sized Headache!

Out on a ride this morning and no sooner had I had one of those thoughts, " what would a blow out be like on my plus size tyres?", when sure enough, sudden hiss and instant loss of air from the front end. I try to be prepared on rides, track pump, chain link, magnet, etc so didn't panic. Then I...

    hello...

Hah! That's true. My parents used to drag me to Thirsk most Saturday afternoons. I thought it was a dump because it didn't have a good record shop. You don't appreciate cobbles when you're 15!

    hello...

Yes I was one of those bus w@nkers But when the bus couldn't get up Winton Bank in the snow and we missed a day at school it didn't seem so bad. Finished in '80 so just before you. Havent been up that way for years now. We usually head over to the lakes if we go up north.

    hello...

Me too. We lived nearby, spent most of my time up there riding old push bikes down the Roman road into the water splash. Would be nice to take the ebike up there now! :) Guess you went to the Allertonshire school too then!

    hello...

Haha. Thanks. We lived on North Yorks moors so I rode mainly Richmond club plus Northallerton and Thirsk. Yes, Kick Start was essential watching (partucularly Junior Kickstart!)

    hello...

So glad I found this site. Great to be able to share experiences of e-biking and ask all those questions that have been racking up! Spent my youth competitive trials riding up in Yorkshire, moved down south and bought my first mountain bike back in '85! ( Saracen Conquest) and been riding on...
