As you see picture, i live in Exeter and they keep taking bikes. probably you’ll say those are illegal. most of them it is but they don’t know how to check bikes and couple of guys lost bikes because of display shows more than 15.5mph. so we don’t know what tl do. that’s why i try to cut speed of my bike to don’t get trouble by police.

Thanks for advise, but unfortunately when they make a test for a bike we can’t touch it. so that means if im not wrong ‘there is no way to cut speed when wheel on the air’
That's a social media post, not news, from the 16th March, not yesterday, and it says nothing about no-load pedal assist speed limit tests!

Can you find out who is the policeman in charge of testing ebikes, and get their details, then I'll write to them to explain why that test is invalid?

All three of those bikes seized have dinner-plate direct drive motors in them. Whatever test the police did would result in those bikes getting seized.

They just walking on the streets and try to check whole bike and if you are lucky, just got you and touch everywhere on bike.
Unfortunately we can not any details about who is gonna check bikes, but if we all send same mail about valid bike check we could get response or some solution.

If really are worried and you have a Bafang BBSXX(X) mid-drive and a programming cable, you could try increasing magnet number as detailed eariler on this thread, and buying a bunch of magnets. You could also experiment with other settings, such as increasing Slow-start Mode, and decreasing "Start current"?

https://edrivenet.com/bafang-programming/

I guess if your mates have KT controllers, they could try the something similar? The hub motor expert dudes on the forum can advise about that. Other than idle interest if I have spare time, I myself see no reason to try, because there is no evidence whatsoever the police are testing pedal assist speed with no load - a test every ebike will fail if the testing police orificer is vigorously determined to make it fail. Besides, I like my new highly effective fridge magnets being very useful exactly where they presently are, on my fridge door holding up reminders about a variety of necessary and vital stuff I mustn't forget to remember being reminded of not forgetting to do.

I've read every news report about ebike seizures for the past four years, and nowhere has a no-load pedal assist speed limit test ever been mentioned. If you have news which says otherwise, post a link.

Where and when did this "happen"?

How did you set speed limit to 25.5km/h? All of the configurators I've seen only accept whole numbers.

Unless I see proof, this is a load of troll bollocks.
One is holding back wheel of the ground, another rotate the pedals by hands and checking the speedometer.
I would love to see you trying to explain to them why they can hear motor spinning when they reach 15.5mph when motor has to switch off even that it was programmed to be strictly legal.
On 30th of January 2025 on the junction of Charing Cross Road and
Shaftesbury Avenue there was big police opp to "crack down on illegal ebikes" where about 40 ebikes were confiscated and mine was one of them. 6 points on my driving licence and £700 fine.

What's the point of uploading this miniscule 4.6K picture "1746159631586.jpeg"? Is your bike being inspected in pixel 43X87?

Fines and points arrive with documentation. Was your bike confiscated after failing the fantasy no-load pedal assist max speed test, and do you have any genuine documentation proving this? Redact the personal bits before hi-res upload.

If these spurious reports of no-load pedal assist speed tests worry you, run your BBSXX(X) headless.

Ha-haha

You think that police so stupid?!

If you remove the screen then your bike will be confiscated with no time and then "through checked*. Maybe you will get it back in few weeks time with no issues , maybe you'll have to go to court to prove your innocence. This is not what you want to happen to you, right?

Yes the do exactly like that here in the UK no matter how stupid they look and how much police time they waste by that instead of doing something more useful. They check speed on the motor display. One is operating and another lifting up the back wheel. First they check the throttle if you have one so it's not powering the motor to more then 3.7 mph without pedaling. That's how my last bike was confiscated with heavy fine and 6 points on my driving licence. Then they check motor wattage and maximum speed by turning the pedals by hands.
Watch the video. The police didn't do that.

Why not? According to you, the police are stupid enough to do the stupid no-load pedal assist speed limit test.

If you don't upload proof, you're going on my IGNORE list.

Freaking trolls.
