then why has nato breached the 1991 deal not to put NATO weapons' and bases closer to there boarder.
Countries want to join nato for their clause 5, mutual protection, because they have the common enemy with other nato members. Why is it difficult to understand? It costs money and sovereignty to belong to a supra national organisation. You wouldn't want to do that unless you have no alternative.
Trump's preference for nato common enemy, Russia, creates an opportunity for Europeans to detach from the USA. They can't wait any longer and will spend as much as it takes to do this before trump does another u-turn.
At the rate countries are selling us treasury bonds, us interest rate will remain high while they come down elsewhere, pushing the us economy into recession. I reckon trump will u-turn after u-turn. Like brexit, trump's ideas can't work in reality. In 2 years, Congress would change hand.
Just think if you're German, wouldn't you like your country free of occupation forces? German parliament gave their government 500 billion euros to spend on defence. With their 5 trillion dollars GDP, how long do you think before they will have the best equipped army in Europe?

I agreed the USA started wars usually for profit and lost wars. Nato was playing second fiddle when the usa was attacked in 9/11. Nato was involved in the balkans because of ethnic cleansing, in Libya because of genocide. Other than those big interventions, only uk took part alongside the usa.

Conveniently forgetting many other NATO members in Afghanistan and Syria.

I did mention Afghanistan. Nato's involvement in Afghanistan as second fiddle. Bush didn't need nato. In Syria, only US, UK and Turkey are really involved. Not a big participation because article 5 was not declared. Article 5 is the reason for nato existence. The USA does not need nato for its own defence they are there to control the organisation through their budget. They do the same with the UN.

Not in the post I replied to and quoted, since it was once again trying to hide the fact that it is the USA who is by far the worst aggressor in today's world and has been ever since WW2.

Russia doesn't even begin to rank in that context.

Membership of nato does not mean countries have to do everything Americans want to do. 29 of 30 nato countries do not seek world domination nor to invade any other country. Why don't you see that? They join nato because they want mutual defense which is actually better without a super power.
