I met Rob M from Maxtrack very briefly before they became the Koga distributor. October 17, 201411 yr we've heard rumours that Raleigh are opening a chain of their own stores, so you might find this means they start preferentially supplying their brands to these stores. Much like Specialised and Giant do with their own concept stores. Could be good for Raleigh, but possibly bad for the rest of their dealers.
October 17, 201411 yr Nope that will be Maxtrack out the loop. Being blunt, I never understood why Koga would want to be associated with a distributor that was selling non related cycle products within the same company name/website. The diversification of products, just doesn't come across as being either committed or professional, and in the case of Koga, actually lowers the impression of quality. Diversification can work, and perhaps it keeps some companies from going under. Just don't do it from the same company name/website.

October 17, 201411 yr You could say the same about 50 Cycles selling speed pedelecs. Which one member on here bought without knowing it was illegal on the road. Although the law may well be changing soon. Does not bother me as long as the sellor makes clear it can only legally be used off road where the public has no access. At the moment you can not even register a speed pedelec as you would essentially need to get it type approved whcih involves essentially turn it into a motorbike. However this debate has run and run. If people are informed and knowingly brake the law fair enough. It is when they do not know because they have not been informed. If the law does change at least people will be able to follow a reltatively straight forward process to ride a fast bike legally.

Neither are tuning dongles if you use them off road where the public has no access. The same applies to speed pedelecs. To be legally used on the road they would need to be type approved which requires changes to essentially make them a moped. That is before even taking into account the difficulty of getting insurance. I know this because i know a few companies who have tried. Currently there is no sub category for them with the DVLA. New changes are planned which may change this in 2015 but I will not believe this until I see it. Feel free to prove me wrong but am yet to see any evidence of anyone legally registering a speed pedelec for use on the road. Other members have also looked into this. I would love to be proved wrong as having ridden speed pedelecs I am a fan!

James' site says this:- Because the Sparta E-Speed can travel at speeds of up to 40Kmh this e-bike must be registered with the DVLA. October 17, 201411 yr CoC only applies to countries like Germany and Netherlands. Can you show any bikes have been registered? Reason being this did not appear to be enough for others who tried to register them. Also what companies would insure them, as I am yet to see one? Again not convinced. This is a shame as i would have loved it to be true.

Its precisely because the de-restricted e-bikes (haibike, moustache, and doubtless soon koga) he promotes and sells do not have a CoC that they can only be used on private land. But the on-road/off-road/private land question is trumped by the safe/unsafe product question: Trading Standards say the bikes are likley to be safe and the dongle is likley to be safe, but combining the two components constitutes the production of a new and, as far as anyone knows, untested product which until proved otherwise by normal product testing procedures, is assumed unsafe. Investigation incomplete but looks like selling a product that is unsafe is illegal - in which case where its used is side issue.
