Wow! Just came back to this thread after reading the first half page yesterday - that was a really quick move from an arcane bike to the ills of modern society! Must be about the fastest veer OT I have seen. Entertaining though.

Predictable as always flecc!

Perhaps you'd like to take this opportunity flecc to explain in fine detail all the principles of tory economics so that everyone can be as appreciative as you?

Indalo
Oh I think everyone can see the predictability is yours, all the familiar targets helplessly ranted at. :)

Explain the principle? Yes of course.

We have an urgent problem, so get on and solve it. Then look for whose bottom should be smacked. If the kids set fire to your house, would you spend time sorting out who had the matches and started it, then punish them, or would you first put the fire out?

As for your "causes" of the problem, China is doing well. Do you imagine they have an army of philanthropic businessmen, bankers with impeccable ethical standards and angelic politicians?

And I'm not as predictable as you seem to think, I agree with you that the capitalist system is a dud one, it's got so many flaws it's a waste of time trying to fix it. Trouble is, as has been remarked before, the others are even worse.

Ah yes indeed! Flecc got his soapbox out a couple of pages back as I recall.

Flecc, I do wish you'd stop agreeing with me. It's doing my street-cred massive harm!

Indalo
It's going to get worse Indalo. :D

You see, I don't just mindlessly mend punctures as you seemed to think, I also spend time in thought on politics and productive solutions.

Here's an example published in this forum in 2006:

Hi
Good Morning

This is a Electric bike forum

Please Please

NO POLITICS ( Unless it is about electric bike legislation )

NO RELIGION

Frank
Most topics start out bike orientated, longer ones almost always move off topic. It's not a bad thing Frank.
People on here are passionate about bikes or they would not be posting here, but life does not begin and end with bikes and these people are generally passionate about life in general.
I don't agree with everything that is said on here, nor do i expect every/anyone to agree with what i say, but i defend their rights to chip in with their ideas.
It might not be bikes, but it's sure interesting :)

Flecc, having read your contributions from 2006 in that link you attached, your credibility has soared in my opinion, for what it's worth.

Respect where it's due and even though you sounded almost as bolshie as me in parts, you were spot on with your observations about Fares fair, for example.

Such was his portrayal by the tory press that many people outside London believed "Red Ken" was slightly more demonic than Hitler with policies a long way left of Trotsky. As such, he was reviled by people who never had contact with any of his policies in action. It's strange but today we see politicians in Wales and Scotland implementing policies with regard to prescription charges and university fees, as examples, which many of us in the larger part of the UK would like here. Those (more than a little socialist) politicians haven't been vilified like Livingstone.

The little Scammels you alluded to were a perfect example of British ingenuity and engineering because they were designed for a particular purpose and they were, to paraphrase the ex home secretary John Reid, "fit for purpose." Of course, things had to change as there was no money in haulage for the tories' benefactors as British Road Services and British Railways had it all sewn up and then came Beeching......

I really don't think Beeching gave a damn one way or the other about road or rail transport but the 1922 committee saw him as the perfect guy, (easily dispensable) to take the flak and see the rape of the rail network through to its conclusion. His bill did far, far more than simply excise a few profitless branch lines around the country. We have never recovered from the "Beeching axe."

As this is way off topic, I shan't go on but I've seen another side to you now.

Much respect Sir,
A strangely subdued Indalo

Thank you Indalo, much appreciated. I've always been a strong supporter of Ken Livingstone and was appalled at the outcome of the last mayoral election.

You'll gather I'm by no means a committed conservative, I vote for what I think right at the time. I've no truck with the currently empowered government as people, but I happen to support the policy of suffering first to put things right and minimise the waste of vast interest payments which ultimately make us all poorer.

Well said, that man!

Ed, there's stuff on here that I agree with..(honest!)....and some that I disagree with. Some of my views of course are not always mainstream, in fact they're rarely mainstream or populist so long live free speech. It is worrying at times though when somebody actually agrees with one of my rants! :)

Indalo
