Now in its fifth year of trading, Westhill Electric Bikes initially operated as a team of five – including founder, Nick Skilton – in a 3,000 square foot unit; the company sold mainly to local dealers and customers in and around their Devonshire base.
The company has since expanded their dealer network throughout the UK, relocating to a 30,000 sq ft warehouse and office.
Sales Manager, Thomas Papworth, tells the story of their growth to date: “As time went by we became braver and recruited more staff, starting with field-based sales reps to expand our dealer network and build relationships with bicycle shops all over the United Kingdom. Now in our 5th year, we have a very strong network of just under 100 dealers ranging from Penzance, Cornwall to Johnstone, Scotland. We’ve also recently developed connections in Europe, selling our e-bikes into Germany and Hungary.”
Setting their sights on continued growth in the UK and overseas for 2020, the company have unveiled their latest models which will be available from April.
Westhill’s 2020 line up comprises new models with integrated ‘quick release’ battery for charging in or out of the frame (two size options): the step-through Classic ST, Ranger crossbar and Venture eMTB as well as the popular Link folder.
Papworth explains: “We have redesigned all our full sized e-bikes using a new battery system making it much more practical for customers while still having the sleek integrated design.
“Customer demands are high and we’ve pulled all these requirements together under competitive price points: Modern design (integrated batteries), powerful performance (65Nm torque motors), industry leading components (Shimano, Tektro, Suntour, LG batteries) and high spec bikes (hydraulic brakes, air forks, Shiamno front hubs, LCD computer display).”
