Speed Pedelec Registration Guide – Driving Licence Requirements
Unlike a regular Pedelec, which is treated as a regular bicycle, to use a Speed Pedelec you will need to hold (or apply for) a regular driving licence.
If you passed your driving test before 2001
You can ride a Speed Pedelec straight away.
If you passed your driving test after 2001
You will need to complete a motorcycle CBT course.
If you don’t have a driving licence
You will need to apply for a privisional licence. When you receive it, you will also need to complete a motorcycle CBT course.
Unfortunately you will also need to fit ‘L’ plates (or rather, just a single plate) to your bike.
You will have 2 years to pass a full test or you will need to retake the CBT.
Unfortunately we are not aware of any CBT training centres offering training on an electric bike.
