Deliveroo, a UK business start-up, is embracing electric bike technology to deliver take away food, faster.
The company uses mobile internet technology to connect restaurants to an “army of electric bikes”.
Deliveroo’s Rebecca Stelea told Pedelecs: “We’re quite a cool community here at Deliveroo… we work with top quality, local restaurants that don’t have a take away system and get cyclists and riders to pick up the food and take it to the customer’s office or home. Things happen very fast so we put up a very competent team of cyclists to share the scene with scooter drivers. “
The average delivery time promised by the company is 32 minutes, delivering lunch or dinner inside a chosen postcode for a flat fee of £2.50.
Deliveroo say they’re already growing both in the UK and internationally – with ordinary cycles as well as electric bikes featuring strongly in their expansion plans.
Stelea says “The fleet is currently growing, at the moment we have over 100 riders in London and we’re looking into growing greatly from September onwards. From our experience, e-bikes can be as good as, or even better than, scooters in terms of performance. Not to mention they’re more fun and kinder to nature. We pride ourselves on quick and efficient deliveries.”
Deliveroo now have cyclists in London, Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Leeds, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Cardiff, Paris, Berlin and Dublin – with more locations being added shortly.
