Nissan is trialling the use of an electric bike to replace a car when customers drop off their LEAF electric cars for a service. The £500 bikes have been rolled out to seven Nissan dealers across the country and if popular will be rolled out to the entire LEAF dealer network.
It seems the LEAF is too expensive to be used as a courtesy car when owners drop their own LEAF’s off for a service or repair and Nissan is appealing to their green credentials to use an electric bike instead of a petrol or diesel car.
‘Buying a LEAF is like becoming a vegetarian, it’s a whole lifestyle change,’ said a Nissan spokesman.
‘When they come into a dealer for service work on their Leaf they want a Leaf as a courtesy car, but that isn’t possible. They see petrol as dirty and don’t really want to be seen driving a normal car – but they seem to be happy with a bike.’
