For the past two years, The Cycle Show at the NEC, Birmingham, has brought the masses the biggest electric bike selection in the UK – and this year it’s set to be even bigger with the return of the extended ‘E-Bike Village’ exhibitor space and a dedicated test track.
Complete with a 1.5m high ramp as the test hill, the 600m long outdoor test track is designed to demonstrate the versatility of electric bikes. This test track will be for electric bikes only this year and riders must be over 18.
Event Director, Chris Holman, said: “It’s very encouraging to see the e-bike area of the show at full capacity this year. This will be the biggest ever line-up of electric bike brands at The Cycle Show and due to the volume of demo bikes submitted for the test track we have made the decision to give electric bikes their own track this year.”
He continued: “It’s fantastic to have the continued support of our friends at the E4 Group and also to welcome new brands into the show such as smart and Gazelle who are with us for the first time, and Peugeot who are back in the UK after a short absence.”
Gazelle, from the Netherlands, has been manufacturing bikes since 189, but this is its first appearance at The Cycle Show.
Joining the newcomers will be over 20 other brands, which are set to promote the very latest electric bike technology for a variety of uses, from commuter to mountain bikes – showing that electric-assisted bikes are as versatile and stylish as they are practical and forward thinking. A2B, part of the E4 Group, is one such brand ready to prove that point: alongside ten models including the new Obree, Orsted and The Entz, it will be promoting its new eSocialBike app, which is designed to provide live information on the performance of its bikes from a chip installed in the battery compartment, alongside GPS route planning.
Moustache Bikes will be exhibiting a sporty urban model, the Friday 26, complete with the Classic+ or Active Bosch motor, hydroformed tubing, specially-designed tubular mudguards and a Brooks saddle. The Sunday 28 model, also set to make an appearance, is designed to be a lightweight, dynamic and streamlined for the weekly Sunday ride.
Austrian manufacturer KTM is famous for its sporty image and is set to show off its Macina e-bike, featuring a Bosch crank drive, and the Estreet P – which uses a Panasonic hub drive. Choosing a drive system is a dilemma that all e-bike users must tackle – and with examples of both varieties on display, plus expert advice on hand, there is a great opportunity for visitors to discuss the best option for them.
Raleigh will be exhibiting their flagship Motus as well as their commuter bike, the Stow-E-Way, which folds up into a nifty package for easy transportation.
Other brands on show will include Batribike, Smart, Powabike, RooDog, Solex, Momentum, FreeGo Wisper, Ansman, Peugeot, Hero, EBCO, AVE, Cube, Urban Mover, Byocycle, blueLABEL, Sirocco and Madhog. A complete list of models available to test ride can be found here.
