Southampton-based electric bike manufacturer, Cyclotricity, have announced the launch of two new models alongside a move to larger premises.
Last year the company announced their premises was undergoing a re-fit to bring assembly of their bikes back to Britain.
With design, prototyping, assembly and testing already handled in-house, Rami Akily, MD, sees future growth for the company not only in controlling the build process in his own factory, but also capitalising on R&D tax incentives, with plans to manufacture key components in-house as well.
This week Cyclotricity told Pedelecs that the new year has seen the company move to larger premises in Southampton to cater for the resulting demand.
Rami said: “We were selling around 60 e-bikes a week, but that has now increased to 100. The UK’s electric bike market is still at an early stage, but our Made In Britain campaign has really helped to increase our sales. People love the idea that we are assembling the bikes in the UK and they also like to know that, if they have any questions, we have experts ready to help either in the showroom or at the end of the phone. We were sad to leave our original home but we just outgrew it and we had to find somewhere that would enable us to expand even further. As well as that, we’ve just announced a distribution deal with Halfords.”
As well as releasing an updated Sahara model (step-through frame), Cyclotricity have also just started selling a 16.9kg folding e-bike called The Wallet.
The company say they have ambitious plans for continued growth, with Rami adding he “has his sights set firmly on the US” next.
