“For short journeys, prioritise walking or cycling,” “think about car pooling” and “take public transport every day” aren’t messages you’d usually expect to see on car ads.
From March however a new law will force all car advertisements in France to include active and green travel statements in a bid to steer people towards greener options.
Polluting less while you move – #SeDéplacerMoinsPolluer – comes as the country strives to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, with those failing to include the new environmental messages facing fines of up to (EUR) €50,000.
France’s Minister for Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompii, tweeted about the upcoming legislation in relation to electric cars last month: “Decarbonizing transport is not just switching to an electric motor. It also means using, when possible, public transport or cycling.”
