I was thinking that other than a rugged mountain bike frame, bikes that have proven to be good long distance tourers might be hardy enough for a motor.
So, I searched a bit, and found the Trek 520
Trek Bikes | Bikes | Road | 520
From the comments, I'd say it fits the bill. One person says his bike weighed 75 pounds loaded while traveling.
Would it be crazy to stick a hub motor on the front of this bike? (btw, I'm sure it's not the only good traditional tourer, just the one I came across without too much looking)
edited to add: yes I know the bike and the bionx adds up to mucho money, but based on the reliability of both, it would be a lifetime purchase
