As someone who often has to fly long haul around the world,I have just noticed that KLM are offering feeder flights from Manston to Amsterdam and then joint partner agreements to the rest of the world. British Airways and Virgin seem no longer to compete with each other and these stupid air green taxes have pushed up UK > world flights considerably, also Heathrow is such an expensive and stressful location to fly from.
On my normal flight UK > Shanghai (they also fly Hangzhou,Guangzhou and Beijing) it will save me 50% on the fair. Look on KLM airline website and fly from Manston,it is not well advertised.

Interesting - didn't know they were opening up flights from there. That's definitely good news if you live in the far South East. Only thing is I guess that unless you live in London or Kent it's a complete b*****r to get to the airport ! Usual load of taxi fares on top of train tickets if you don't drive out there etc etc.

I did about 12 trips to Europe last year and was always staggered that my cost of getting to the airport and back with petrol and parking on stays of a few days away added about £60-£70 to every trip :(. Would likely have been just as much by bus or train with taxis to station and back both ways. Almost as much as the flight tickets out of Summer peak times. Crazy .

BA fares are often very high especially for direct flights from Heathrow. Fine for business if someone else is paying :).

I agree, the only realistic way for me to get to Heathrow is airport taxis, that trip is £180 return, also you have to allow 4 hours on the M25,just in case there is an accident.
At Manston the car park is only £5 per day and the risk of traffic hold up is considerably reduced.
My friends are often flying to family in Perth Australia, they are using Manston>Amsterdam>Kuala Lumpur>Perth, cost £3.5k By BA,business class, that is £7k.
No business involvement with Manston, just want the facility to survive. Also Manston would take some pressure off the other London airports, extending the high speed rail to London would be good.
