Since my wife joined local womens bike club she now looks with disdain at our 2 e bikes in the hall as she ventures out in her lycra!lol Has been using her vintage Raleigh but really needs a modern multi geared bike...any ideas for where to get a reasonably priced, light, road/sport bike (not drop handle bar)

gumtree throws up nothing so will probably have to buy new..just wondering if anyone knows about these sorts of bikes...

Worth a trip to BikePlus in Brighton Road, South Croydon Eddie, they are a division of Geoffrey Butler Cycles, a well known name in sport cycling circles with a nearby showroom. BikePlus a very large place with huge stocks and staffed by knowledgeable bike riders. They have stocks at all prices of good makes, no cut price rubbish since CycleKing just up the road stock that. I've bought unpowered bikes three times from Paul there, all at very moderate prices. There's frontage parking in front of the showroom at BikePlus and they are e-bike friendly too:

Tony, still a bit under the weather with chest infection so just popped into De Ver Cycles our LBS. called bikeplus and going there during the week.

when we had finished looking (still trying to make her mind up about flat or drop bars) there was aboy I guess about 14-15 with his dad by the counter and a large crystallite? motor standing on the floor... Maurice (the owner) nows I have ebikes and said do you know anything about these (they wanted it fitting in a wheel). Other then its illegal for road use here not much...dad says what! I asked boy what is it..he says 2000 watt....O......K.....says I, why does a fit young lad like you need something like this? a shrug and silence. dad says he goes on ES forum. O......K says I

the thing weighs a ton about 10 inches across. lad had drilled a load of 12mm holes all over case, apparently OK according to ES, maybe in California where it rains twice a year says I...it was like a colanderlol and still hard to lift of ground...

while I have discussed wheel building and motors with Maurice before he was unsurprisingly a bit perplexed, the situation very bizzare...

stopped snowing and cleared up a bit so took it out for a spin...rides really nicely, far more comfortable then my sons Boardman..that is really hard core..Anyway the gears flumoxed me! managed to click and change down but stopped about 3 times and for the life of me not a clue how to change up...you tube reveals all!lol

Shimano Sora Flight Deck Shifters (Left side not working) - YouTube

I now see the advantages of drop handle bars for club riding, as you have 3 positions to hold bike with , so less stress.

Should go quite well with that Crystalite motor, Did you make him an offer? You wouldn't have to worry too much about the gears then.
