With Paris moving to 30 kph..

With Paris moving to 30 kph and assuming others follow maybe it is time to look at max assisted speed of 30 kph as it would mean ebikes could flow with the traffic?

If they do, seems sensible. Some of the US States appear to have a 20mph limit.

I suspect the Parisians will ditch their cars and buy 25kph ebikes rather than accumulate numerous speeding fines. Just another cash raising exercise dreamed up by the back room boys and implemented by attention seeking spineless politicians - just like the failed congestion charge reasoning.

Brighton is going 20mph even several miles outside the centre.
Combined with many long steep hills, and its perfect for ebikes.

It was reported that dropping the speed from 60 kph to 40 kph in some of our bigger cities has not slowed traffic transit times at all and some are claiming slight time reductions from A to B.
These speeds are not wide spread yet though.

Under 19mph? Parisians will stretch that as far as they can!

Of course it's easy to introduce such a limit in a small city like Paris, but in the huge size of London and many other cities it's impractical if applied to every road. What has been proposed a number of times is 20mph in all residential areas, but that wouldn't help e-bike commuters much,

In any case, I can't see the EU changing the pedelec 25kph limit just for the odd city that alters it's rules, since they already have the 45 kph S class for faster riding available to any EU country that wants to adopt it. Hardly any national governments do it seems, especially our UK one. That S class speed could keep up with present city traffic.

Paris is not a small city.

It's as big as london if you include suburb.

Paris is equivalent to london zone 1 and 2 in term of population density and commerce.

Then suburbs around can easily compare to london zone 3 and more

I wish they would make the speed limit in London 20mph, at the moment it feels more like 5mph.

My understanding is that the current legislation is trying to reduce the number of accidents in the capital and reduce all vehicles speed to 30km/h. I'm not sure it means that ebikes can increase their speed legally to 30km/h

Yes, I understand that cwah, but my point was that I think the limit is confined to the traditional City of Paris which is much smaller than London. I don't think it extends out to all the suburbs of Greater Paris, the Periphique isn't included for example, still at 80kph limit.

The Mayor is currently trying to get it dropped from 80 to 70kph.

Obviously believes in the gradual approach!
