Wisper 905SE Chain problem

My beloved workhorse, Black Beauty, is playing up
A few weeks ago, when standing on the pedals to get a sprint on to beat the lights, there was a really loud scrunching noise and the chain slipped but didn't fall off. It has very quickly got worse to the point today where I was only putting in a little extra effort to go past someone and it was slipping.

It has done 7000 miles since I got it in May 2008. I was thinking of getting a new chain and giving all the cogs a really good clean - any other suggestions?

Sounds like the chainring has worn right down, you need a new one quickly. It's worth checking the chain and rear sprockets as they may be worn out as well.
Your bikes the same age as mine and I needed a 110BCD fitting, it's probably a good idea to get a Wisper one as the chain guards stop it falling off.

I think you need a rear sprocket cassette, but it would also be best to replace the chain at the same time. Norman's your man to pin point your exact needs. Cleaning the cogs is unlikely to help.

I have just found out that the bike shop less than 1/4 mile from my work place now stocks and services Wisper bikes
Their diagnosis is as exactly as Dynamic Position suggested and the parts are being ordered.

Unless you are competent and have the tools etc., I would get the bike shop to fit the parts (providing you are happy with the quote for the work to be done). Maybe they would give you a courtesy bike for the last 1/4 mile to your work
