March 5, 201214 yr Hi All, Anyone have any idea why the battery charger is a three pin plug (reminds me of a microphone XLR jack)? It's a little annoying that if I want a second charge I have to fork out £80+. Are there any alternative on the market that don't void my warranty?
March 7, 201214 yr Early Wisper chargers were fitted with a coaxial ( phono ) plug, as were early Phylion batteries. On a phono plug, the center pin stands proud of the outer ground ring. If the plug accidentally touched a metal surface while the charger was switched on, the internal fuse would be blown. The XLR plug has recessed pins, removing the possibility of shorting. On your second point, which I believe refers to the charger, It is preferable to use the charger supplied by the manufacturers. The charging cutoff voltage of Lithium batteries tends to vary, depending on the cell type. Compared to some, the Wisper charger is reasonably priced. A Battery ruined by using the wrong charger could cost six times as much to replace.
March 7, 201214 yr You can get a charger from BMSbattery, and they'll set the voltage to exactly what you want. So, read what's written on yours and give them the number. If that's not enough, there's a little trim-pot inside, where you can adjust it, which is handy if you get a new (different) battery. Ask for the right connector. Alloy Shell 120W LiFePo4/Li-Ion/Lead Acid Battery EBike Charger - BMSBATTERY They also sell the connectors. Even though it's a three pin, only two are connected.

Hi Ian Sorry but using any other charger than the Wisper charger would totally invalidate your battery warranty. Wiper chargers are set up perfectly for our batteries with circuitry that works with the battery management system that will maximise the longevity of your battery. Our chargers are complicated and very well built. They are very well priced to make sure people only use Wisper chargers with Wisper batteries. All the best David
