Wisper 905 SE in the wet...

Has anybody else experienced problems with their 905SE in the wet?
I'll put my hands up and say that I only usually use it when the sun is shining, but today I wasn't too fussed about a bit of light drizzle.
All of a sudden it went on to full throttle and wouldn't come off it. In the end I had to switch it off as I was shooting forward too quickly in traffic. When I did turn it back on, it wouldn't work at all, so I had to do the last 5 miles without power.:(

I'm guessing water has crept into the control box or throttle housing, but I'm a bit worried it might have done some lasting damage?

Any thoughts?

I'm wondering if water has got into the throttle housing, the front junction box on the steering stem or the space below the control box and shorted the 5V line to the output on the throttle hall-effect sensor.

It's possible that when the power is turned in it might default to no control if it senses that the throttle is anywhere but off. David or Norman at Wisper can best answer that.

My Wisper has been fine even in torrential rain but if I remember correctly I sprayed my junction box and control wiring on the bike underside with spray grease. Goes in liquid then thickens to a really sticky protective coat.

Since I've never had water get into the throttle housing (could be possible, though,) I suspect the junction box or the underside wiring chamber. Get some WD40 in there and see if it helps.

Best regards.

Vikki.

The only problem I had with water was once in heavy rain when the lights in the throttle housing went a bit random, it's possible that a similar leak has caused your trouble. Drying it out should fix the problem, WD40 might make that a bit quicker.

Water ingress rarely causes damage, but drying it out can be a pain and take ages, especially if in the controller as often happens. Bring it into a dry warm room, and if you have a dehumidifier you can run in there with the doors closed, so much the better and quicker.

I think it was just a "glitch", as after several hours in a nice warm underground car park, everything was back to normal.
I gave it a squirt with some WD40 when I got home and sealed the cables into the control box, so fingers crossed!
